The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I whose members are located in the Northeastern United States.
Jerold Taylor "Jay" Wright Jr. is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of Villanova University from 2001 until 2022. Wright led the Villanova Wildcats to six Big East Conference championships and 16 NCAA tournament appearances in 21 seasons as head coach. Under Wright, Villanova reached four Final Fours and won two national championships in 2016 and 2018.
The Northeastern Huskies are the athletic teams representing Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. They compete in thirteen varsity team sports: men's and women's hockey ; men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's field hockey and volleyball, swimming, and men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's rowing, track and cross-country.

Only the top-8 schools made it to the 1987 tournament, therefore excluding both Colgate and Hartford. Northeastern gained its fourth consecutive and sixth overall America East Conference Championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Boston University. Northeastern was given the 14th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Purdue 104–95. Niagara University gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the second round to La Salle 89–81, after beating Seton Hall 74–65.

The 1980 ECAC North men's basketball tournament was hosted by the higher seeds in head-to-head matchups. It was the inaugural tournament ever held for the ECAC North. The final was held at The Hart Center on the campus at the College of Holy Cross. Holy Cross gained their first and only America East Conference Championship in the first ever tournament as well as an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Boston University. Holy Cross was given the 11th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Maryland 84–78. Boston University gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Boston College 95–74.
The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team represents Stony Brook University in NCAA Division I men's college baseball. Stony Brook currently competes in the CAA and plays its home games on Joe Nathan Field. Matt Senk has coached the team since the beginning of the 1991 season. The team has won the America East tournament six times in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2019. In 2011, the Seawolves claimed their first America East regular season championship. Stony Brook has participated in the NCAA tournament on six separate occasions, winning its first game in 2010.
John Becker is an American college basketball coach, currently the head coach of the Vermont Catamounts of the America East Conference. He replaced Mike Lonergan, who left to become the coach at George Washington University.
The 2003 America East Conference baseball tournament was held from May 22 through 24 at Centennial Field in Burlington, Vermont. The top four regular season finishers of the league's seven teams qualified for the double-elimination tournament. In the championship game, fourth-seeded Northeastern defeated third-seeded Stony Brook, 11–0, to win its third tournament championship. As a result, Northeastern received the America East's automatic bid to the 2003 NCAA tournament.
The 2002 America East Conference baseball tournament was held from May 23 through 25 at Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Maine. The top four regular season finishers of the league's seven teams qualified for the double-elimination tournament. In the championship game, first-seeded Maine defeated third-seeded Northeastern, 7-5, to win its second tournament championship. As a result, Maine received the America East's automatic bid to the 2002 NCAA tournament.
The 1997 America East Conference baseball tournament was held at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Delaware. The top six regular season finishers of the league's nine teams qualified for the double-elimination tournament. In the championship game, fifth-seeded Northeastern defeated third-seeded Vermont, 8–1, to win its second tournament championship. As a result, Northeastern received the America East's automatic bid to the 1997 NCAA tournament.
The 1994 North Atlantic Conference baseball tournament was held over two weekends, with the final round being played at Friedman Diamond in Brookline, Massachusetts. All eight of the league's teams qualified for the tournament, the format of which was best-of-three quarterfinals and a four-team double-elimination final round. In the championship game, second-seeded Northeastern defeated fifth-seeded Hartford, 5-0, to win its first tournament championship. As a result, Northeastern received the North Atlantic's automatic bid to the 1994 NCAA tournament.

Led by head coach Jim Calhoun, the Huskies competed in the ECAC North Conference and played their home games at Matthews Arena. They finished the season 22–9 overall with a 13–3 mark in ECAC North play to win the regular season conference title. They followed the regular season by winning the ECAC North Conference tournament to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 14 seed in the East region. The Huskies were defeated in the opening round by No. 3 seed Illinois, 76–57.
