The 1986 Super League of Malawi was the first season of Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi.

Overview

Top five clubs from Blantyre and Districts Football League (BDFL) and top three from Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL) were invited to participate in the inaugural national league championship. Two clubs from Blantyre, Limbe Leaf Wanderers and Hardware Stars indicated they would not participate, but LLW changed its decision, while ADMARC Tigers replaced Hardware Stars. The other three teams in Blantyre were the Red Lions, Bata Bullets and Berec Power Pack who, through a new sponsorship agreement, changed to MDC United. The Lilongwe clubs were MITCO FC, Civo United and Silver Strikers.

The home and away format was played on three rounds with Gillette Nacet as the first sponsor.

The first game was played on 15 March 1986 involving MITCO FC and Admarc Tigers. MITCO FC won the game 1–0 a goal scored by Lameck Botha in the 21st minute there by becoming the first player to score a goal in the history of Super League of Malawi. [1] [2]

The season played between 16 April and 31 December 2016. Nyasa Big Bullets were the defending champions for the second consecutive year. Kamuzu Barracks won their first league title.

The 2017 TNM Super League was the 32nd season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. The season started on 6 May and concluded on 22 December 2017. Kamuzu Barracks were the defending champions of the previous season. Be Forward Wanderers won the title for the first time in eleven years, defeating Masters Security 4–1 at Balaka Stadium on 16 December 2017.

The 2018 Super League of Malawi was the 33rd season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. It started on 14 April and ended on 24 December 2018. Be Forward Wanderers FC were the defending champions of the previous season. Nyasa Big Bullets was crowned Super League champions for fourteenth time following a 3–0 win over Red Lions.

The 2020–21 Super League of Malawi was the 35th season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. Nyasa Big Bullets are the defending champions. It started on 28 November 2020 before it was postponed in March 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Malawi.

MDC United FC(Malawi Development Corporation United Football Club) was an association football club based in Lilongwe, Central Region of Malawi. Established in 1976, the club were one of the founder members of the Super League of Malawi in 1986 season.

The 2013 TNM Super League was the 28th season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. It started on 27 April 2013 and was scheduled to conclude on 28 December 2013, but officially ended on 18 February 2014. Silver Strikers were the defending champions.

The 2022 Super League of Malawi is the 36th season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. The season started on 19 March 2022 and was ended on 19 November 2022. Nyasa Big Bullets are the defending champions.

The 2012–13 TNM Super League was the 27th season of the Super League of Malawi, the top professional league for association football clubs in Malawi since its establishment in 1986. It started on 26 May 2012 and was ended on 22 February 2013. Silver Strikers were the defending champions. The Bankers successfully defended their Super League title at goal difference a week before the end of the season.
