The 1989 Afro-Asian Club Championship, was the 4th Afro-Asian Club Championship competition endorsed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC), contested between the winners of the African Champions' Cup and the Asian Club Championship.

Contents

The final was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Algerian team ES Sétif the 1988 African Cup of Champions Clubs winner, and Qatari team Al-Sadd, the 1988–89 Asian Club Championship winner.

The first leg was hosted by ES Sétif at the 17 June Stadium in Constantine on 12 January 1990, while the second leg was hosted by Al-Sadd at Al-Ahly Stadium in Doha on 19 January 1990. ES Sétif won the two legs, with a score on aggregate 5–1.

ES Sétif Algerian football club

Entente Sportive Sétifienne, known as Entente de Sétif, commonly referred to as ES Sétif or ESS for short, is an Algerian professional football club based in Sétif. The club was founded in 1958 and its colours are black and white. Their home stadium, the Stade 8 Mai 1945, has a capacity of 18,000 spectators. The club is currently playing in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1.

The 1988–89 Asian Club Championship was the 8th edition of the annual Asian club football competition hosted by Asian Football Confederation.

Abdelhakim Serrar is an Algerian former professional football player who won the African Nations Cup in 1990 and is one of a few that won the Afro-Asian Cup for both club and country. Serrar played as a central defender throughout his career for Entente sportive de Sétif. He is currently the president of ES Sétif, and since his presidency the club has been arguably one of the best teams in the division, if not the best. He retired from football on 1 July 1991 at the age of 30.

A total of 16 teams, 8 from West Asia and 8 from East Asia, competed in the 2011 AFC Champions League knockout stage. They included the 8 group winners and the 8 group runners-up from the group stage.
