The 1993 Azerbaijan Top League was the second season of the Azerbaijan Top League and was contested by 20 clubs with 2 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and no points were awarded for a defeat. Neftchi Baku were unable to defend their championship, with Karabakh Agdam becoming the champions.

Contents

The 20 participating teams where divided into two groups of 10, and faced each other twice. The top two clubs at the end of the 18 games qualified for the championship play-off matches, whilst the bottom three clubs were relegated. However Nefteqaz were spared relegation after Daşqın Zaqatala were relegated due to their financial problems. At the start of the season Taraggi Baku changed their name to Azneftyag Baku, whilst newly promoted Kyur Samukh became Boz Qurd Samukh.

The Azerbaijan Premier League is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Azerbaijan football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each. The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd place winner secure right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round.

The 1992 Azerbaijan Top League was the first season of the Azerbaijan Top League, since their independence from the USSR in August 1991, and was contested by 26 clubs. The Season took place between 3 May and 30 October 1992 and was won by Neftchi Baku, with six teams being relegated to the Azerbaijan First Division for the 1993 season. During the '92 season a win was awarded 2 points, a draw 1 and no points were awarded for a defeat.

The 1993-94 Azerbaijan Top League was the third season of the Azerbaijan Top League and was contested by 16 clubs with 2 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and no points were awarded for a defeat. Karabakh Agdam were unable to defend their championship, with Turan Tovuz becoming the champions.

The 1994-95 Azerbaijan Top League was the fourth season of the Azerbaijan Top League and was contested by 13 clubs with 2 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and no points were awarded for a defeat. Turan Tovuz were unable to defend their championship, with Kəpəz becoming the champions for the first time.

The 1995-96 Azerbaijan Top League was the fifth season of the Azerbaijan Top League and was contested by 11 clubs and was the first season were 3 points were awarded for a win. Kəpəz were the defending champions but were unable to keep their title as Neftchi Baku completed a domestic double, winning their second Azerbaijan League title and the Azerbaijan Cup.

The 1996-97 Azerbaijan Top League was contested by 16 teams and won by Neftchi Baku. Champions are Garabag Agdam thanks to "youth points" from the U-15 and U-16 Championships.

The 1997-98 Azerbaijan Top League was the seventh season of the Azerbaijan Top League, since their independence from the USSR in August 1991, and was contested by 15 clubs. Kapaz won their second title and Qarabağ and the Azerbaijan U-18 team were relegated. Khazri Buzovna pulled out of the league and dissolved after 8 games, as did Kur Nur at the end of the season.

The 1998-99 Azerbaijan Top League was the eighth season of the Azerbaijan Top League, since their independence from the USSR in August 1991, and was contested by 14 clubs. The season took place between 15 August 1998 and May 1999 and was won by Kapaz with Neftqaz Bakı and Shahdag being relegated to the Azerbaijan First Division as well as Bakili Baku due to financial problems.

The 1999-2000 Azerbaijan Top League was contested by twelve clubs and won by FK Shamkir.

The 2000-01 Azerbaijan Top League was contested by 11 clubs and won by FK Shamkir.

The 2001-02 Azerbaijan Top League was contested by twelve clubs. In the 2nd round of the Championship, the championship was suspended due to the conflict between the clubs and the AFFA and clubs were not allowed to the European club tournaments.

The 2003-04 Azerbaijan Top League was contested by fourteen clubs. It started on 17 May 2003 and finished on 5 May 2004. The title was won by Neftchi Baku for the fourth time.

The 2004-05 Azerbaijan Top League was the thirteenth season of the Top League since its establishment in 1992. The season began on 7 August 2004 and finished on 24 May 2005. Neftchi Baku were the defending champions, having won the previous season, and they retained the title after defeating Khazar Lankaran in a playoff after both teams finished level on points and goal difference.

The 2005-06 Azerbaijan Top League was the fourteenth season of the Top League since its establishment in 1992. The season began on 7 August 2005 and finished on 24 May 2006. Neftchi Baku are the defending champions, having won the previous season.

2006–07 Azerbaijan Premier League was the fifteenth season of top-tier football in Azerbaijan. The season started with 14 teams, but ended with 13 after FK Gäncä were excluded. FK Baku were the defending champions with the season began on 5 August 2006 and ended on 23 May 2007. At the end of the season the league was dissolved and replaced by the Azerbaijan Premier League.

The 2007–08 Azerbaijan Premier League is the 16th season of Azerbaijan Premier League, the Azerbaijani professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Khazar Lankaran were the defending champions, having won the previous season.

The 2008–09 Azerbaijan Premier League is the 17th season of Azerbaijan Premier League, the Azerbaijani professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Inter Baku were the defending champions, having won the previous season.

The 2009–10 Azerbaijan Premier League was the eighteenth season of top-tier football in Azerbaijan. It began on 14 August 2009 and finished in May 2010. FK Baku were the defending champions.

The Kəpəz 2012–13 season was Kəpəz's third Azerbaijan Premier League season since their promotion back into the top flight. Kapaz started the season under Fuad Ismayilov, but he resigned on August 19, being replaced by Mahmud Gurbanov. Kəpəz finished the season in 12th place, getting relegated to the Azerbaijan First Division for the 2013-14 season, after being bottom of the league for all bar two weeks. They also participated in the 2012–13 Azerbaijan Cup, winning their first-round game against Qala 2-4, before losing to Qarabağ in extra time in the second round.

The 2016–17 Azerbaijan First Division was the 25th season of the second level of football in Azerbaijan. Neftchala FK were the defending champions.
