Lindsay Davenport defeated Steffi Graf in the final, 6–4, 7–5 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. This was the final Grand Slam tournament in which Graf appeared. Davenport did not drop a set throughout the entire tournament. Jana Novotná was the defending champion but lost in the quarterfinals to Davenport.

Venus Williams defeated the defending champion Lindsay Davenport in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–3) to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2000 Wimbledon Championships. It was her first major singles title. Williams lost only one set during the entire tournament, to Martina Hingis in the quarterfinals.

She achieved the 'Channel Slam', a feat which she accomplished again in 2015. Serena did not lose a set during the tournament.

Fourth-seeded Arantxa Sánchez Vicario won the title, defeating Monica Seles in the final 7–6(7–5), 0–6, 6–2, to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1998 French Open. This marked the last time Sánchez Vicario defeated Seles at any tournament. It was also the last major final in which either Sánchez Vicario or Seles played.

Jana Novotná defeated Nathalie Tauziat in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–2) to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1998 Wimbledon Championships. This was Novotná's only win in a Wimbledon final on her third attempt. This would be the last time a Czech player would win Wimbledon until Petra Kvitová won in 2011. Martina Hingis was the defending champion but lost in the semifinals to Novotná, in a rematch of the previous year's final.
