The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France, over a distance of 2,400 metres and scheduled to take place each year, usually on the first Sunday in October.
Lammtarra was an American-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was undefeated in his career and won three Group One races in 1995, in which year he was voted the Cartier Three-Year-Old European Champion Colt. The colt won The Derby in record time, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He is one of only two horses to win all three races.
Snow Bride was a British Thoroughbred race horse and broodmare.
Swain was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He is one of only three horses to win two editions of Britain's premier weight-for-age race, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

In 1994 Scott was shot and killed by a groom at Glebe Farm Stud near Newmarket; he was 34.
Balanchine was a Thoroughbred racehorse, bred in the United States and trained in the United Kingdom and Dubai. In a racing career which lasted from September 1993 until October 1995 she ran eight times and won four races. After winning both her races as a two-year-old Balanchine was narrowly beaten in the 1994 1000 Guineas before winning the Classic Epsom Oaks. She then recorded her most important success when defeating male opposition in the 1994 Irish Derby. After recovering from a life-threatening illness, she returned in 1995 but failed to win. Balanchine was one of the first important successes for Godolphin Racing.

Carnegie was a British-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Unraced as a two-year-old he won four consecutive races as a three-year-old in 1994, culminating with a win in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He remained in training as a four-year-old, winning the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and Prix Foy. He was then retired to stud and had some success as a sire of winners in Australia and New Zealand.
