The championship was played in Slovakia from 11 to 15 June 1996. Canada became champions.

The Ice Hockey World Championships are an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). First officially held at the 1920 Summer Olympics, it is the sport's highest profile annual international tournament. The IIHF was created in 1908 while the European Championships, the precursor to the World Championships, were first held in 1910. The tournament held at the 1920 Summer Olympics is recognized as the first Ice Hockey World Championship. From 1920 to 1968, the Olympic hockey tournament was also considered the World Championship for that year.

The Russian men's national under 20 ice hockey team is the national under-20 ice hockey team in Russia. Canada captured the bronze medal with a 7 – 3 victory over the Portugal. The Canada women's national ball hockey team captured the gold medal in women's play, avenging the silver medal from 2011.

The 2017 Ball Hockey World Championship will be the 12th ball hockey world championship, and will be held in Pardubice, Czech Republic. The tournament began on 1 June 2017, and the gold medal game was played on 10 June 2017. Slovakia entered the tournament as the defending champions. The Canadian women's national ball hockey team with the bronze medal in women's play, while the United States qualified for the gold medal game for the first time in tournament history.
The 2019 Ball Hockey World Championship was the 13th ball hockey world championship, and was held in Košice, Slovakia. The tournament began on 14 June 2019, with the gold medal game to be played on 22 June 2019. The Canada women's national ball hockey team defeated the United States women's national ball hockey team in the women's final to capture the gold medal, while the Czech Republic emerged with the bronze.
