1996 Doutta Galla Province state by-election

The 1996 Doutta Galla Province state by-election was held on 30 March 1996 for the Doutta Galla Province seat in the Victorian Legislative Council. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of David White, a member of the Labor Party, who vacated the seat to contest the lower house electorate of Tullamarine in the 1996 state election. ^{[1] [2]}

Labor candidate Tayfun Eren won the election, retaining the seat for the party.

Aftermath

Eren’s victory maintained Labor’s representation in the upper house and followed a trend of close contests in metropolitan provinces during the 1990s. ^[3]
