The 1996 Women's Volleyball Olympic Qualifier was played by eight countries to determine the last three competing teams for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. The tournament was held in Tokyo, Japan from May 26 to June 2, 1996. The top-three teams advance to the Olympic Games with one berth guaranteed for an Asian country.

The 2006 World Weightlifting Championships were held at the Handball Pavilion and Weightlifting Pavilion Dr. José Joaquín Puello in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The event took place from September 30 to October 7, 2006.
Eight teams qualified for the Olympic baseball tournament. The host nation qualifies automatically. Additionally, two teams qualified from the American qualifying tournament, and one team qualified from both the European and Asian qualifying tournaments. The field was be rounded out by the top three teams from the world Olympic qualifying tournament. The qualifications were held in Taichung, Barcelona, and Havana.
