Elections to the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan were held in 1997. Balochistan National Party formed a coalition government with Jamhoori Wattan Party; Akhtar Mengal became the Chief Minister of the province. [1]

Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was a Pakistani politician who served as the 15th prime minister of Pakistan from 2002 until his resignation in 2004. He was the first and only elected prime minister from Balochistan, Pakistan.
Ataullah Mengal was a Pakistani politician and feudal figure. He was the head of the Mengal tribe until he nominated one of his grandsons, Sardar Asad Ullah Mengal, as his tribal successor. He was also the 1st Chief Minister of Balochistan during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's premiership from 1 May 1972 to 13 February 1973. He died on 2 September 2021 in Karachi.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is a Pakistani politician who is the former Chief Minister of Punjab when he, as Chief Minister, had dissolved the Assembly. He had been a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 till January 2023. In 2023, he left the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and was appointed its president along with his son, Moonis Elahi, and other ten former PML(Q) MPAs over political rifts with the party president, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He was the former president of the Punjab Division of the PML(Q).

Sardar Sanaullah Khan Zehri is a Pakistani politician who had been the Chief Minister of Balochistan from 24 December 2015, to 9 December 2017. He belongs to Channal Zarakzai family and also the Sardar of the Zehri tribe and chief of Jhalawan. Zehri succeeded Abdul Malik Baloch as chief minister Balochistan, Pakistan on 24 December 2015 as part of the power sharing deal brokered in the resort town of Murree.
