The 1998 Cairns Cyclones season was the third season that the Cairns Cyclones rugby league team competed in the Queensland Cup. The Queensland Cup became the premier level competition in the state in 1998 after the Brisbane Rugby League ceased at the end of the 1997 season. See Article: Brisbane Rugby League.
The Cairns Cyclones were a rugby league team that competed in the QRL Queensland Cup competition from 1996 to 2000. The inaugural 1996 team included the Captain/Coach and six first grade players from CDRL's Smithfield-based Ivanhoes Rugby League Club.
Rugby league football is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field. One of the two codes of rugby, it originated in Northern England in 1895 as a split from the Rugby Football Union over the issue of payments to players. Its rules progressively changed with the aim of producing a faster, more entertaining game for spectators.
The Intrust Super Cup is the top level of rugby league football in Queensland, Australia. Run by the QRL, the competition is known as the Intrust Super Cup due to sponsorship from Intrust Super and is contested by fourteen teams, twelve of which are based in Queensland, with one based in New South Wales and one based in Papua New Guinea.
The Cyclones were one of sixteen clubs competing in the twenty-two-week-long competition. The Bundaberg Grizzlies re-joined the competition, the Townsville Stingers and Gold Coast Vikings joined for the first time and the Port Moresby Vipers left due to travel and accommodation costs. The Cairns Cyclones team was managed by Nigel Tillett and coached by Gary Smith.
The Bundaberg Grizzlies is a rugby league team from Bundaberg, Queensland that had previously played in the Queensland Cup. Their home ground is Salter Oval, Bundaberg.
The North Queensland Young Guns were a rugby league team competing in the Queensland Cup. They acted as a feeder team for the North Queensland Cowboys. The Cowboys had previously entered reserve grade teams in the Australian Rugby League and Super League competitions. However, to prevent a drain on travelling expenses, the Cowboys applied to join the Queensland Cup for the 1998 season. Competing as the Townsville Stingers, the reserve grade team had some initial success before narrowly missing the finals. The team was excluded from the 1999 Queensland Cup season, and the Cowboys decided to enter their teams into the predominantly New South Wales-based First Division for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Readmitted to the Queensland Cup in 2002, the Young Guns would win the competition in 2005 with a 36-6 win against defending premiers Burleigh Bears in the grand final.
The Gold Coast Vikings was a rugby league team representing the Gold Coast Rugby League Competition, where the best players of the competition get selected to play for the Vikings.

The Northern Suburbs Devils, or North Brisbane Devils, or often simply referred to as Norths for short, are a rugby league club representing the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Australia. The team colours are sky blue, navy blue and gold. They play in the Queensland Wizard Cup, and, through their predecessors, are one of the oldest clubs in Australia. Norths have won 13 A Grade, 17 Reserve Grade and 14 Colts/Third Grade Premierships. They hold the record for most consecutive A Grade Brisbane Rugby League premierships, winning six in a row between 1959 and 1964.

The National Rugby League is the top level rugby league competition in Australia and New Zealand. Due to sponsorship requirements, the competition was renamed the Bundy Gold Cup. Twelve teams competed in the 22 round competition. The Cairns Cyclones team was managed by Nigel Tillett and coached by Brad Tessman.
The Queensland Suburban Rugby Union, or QSRU, is affiliated to the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and runs the rugby competition colloquially known as "Subbies" in Brisbane and South East Queensland.
2015 is the eighth competitive season for the Cairns based Sea Swift Northern Pride Rugby League Football Club. They played in the QRL state competition, the Intrust Super Cup. 14 clubs competed, with each club playing 23 matches over 25 rounds. In 2015 the Townsville Blackhawks were admitted to the competition.
The 2018 Football Queensland season was the sixth season since NPL Queensland commenced as the top tier of Queensland men’s football. This season was also the initial season of the Football Queensland Premier League which occupied the second tier in Queensland men’s football in 2018.
