1998 Fed Cup Americas Zone Group I – Placement Pool A

Placement Group A of the 1998 Fed Cup Americas Zone Group II was one of six pools in the Americas Zone Group I of the 1998 Fed Cup. The three teams that placed first in the initial pools competed in a round robin competition, with the top team advancing to the World Group II Play-offs.

The 1998 Fed Cup was the 36th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. In the final, Spain defeated Switzerland at Palexpo Hall in Geneva, Switzerland on 19–20 September, giving Spain its fifth title.

The 1998 World Group II Play-offs were four ties which involved the losing nations of the World Group II and four nations from the three Zonal Group I competitions. Nations that won their play-off ties entered the 1999 World Group II, while losing nations joined their respective zonal groups.

The Venezuela Fed Cup team represents Venezuela in Fed Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Federación Venezolana de Tenis. Venezuela will compete in Americas Zone Group I in 2012.

The Belarus Fed Cup team represents Belarus in Fed Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Belarus Tennis Association. They currently compete in the World Group.
