The 1998 Northeast Conference Baseball Tournament began on May 11 and ended on May 12, 1998, at Cochrane Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey. The league's top four teams competed in the single elimination tournament. Rain severely impacted the event, forcing both a venue change and a format change. The tournament was originally intended to be a double-elimination tournament at Waterfront Park in Trenton, New Jersey. [1] Second-seeded Monmouth won their first tournament championship, then won the NCAA play-in series against Navy to advance to the 1998 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. [2]

Seeding and format

The top four finishers were seeded one through four based on conference regular-season winning percentage. Due to rain, the standard double-elimination format was abandoned in favor of a single-elimination tournament. [2]

The SEC Tournament champion is separate from the conference champion. The conference championship is determined solely by regular season record.

The Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament is the conference championship tournament in baseball for the Sun Belt Conference. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. After Coastal Carolina University hosts the competition in Conway, South Carolina in 2019, the tournament will move to a neutral site, Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, AL, from 2020 to 2024.

The 2012 Northeast Conference Baseball Tournament began on May 17 and ended on May 19, 2012 at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, CT. The league's top four teams competed in the double elimination tournament. Second seeded Sacred Heart won their second consecutive, and third overall, tournament championship and earned the Northeast Conference's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

The 1998 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 12. It was scheduled to be a double-elimination tournament held at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, where it had been held from 1987 to 1997. Rain, however, forced the league to move it to the Phillies' Veterans Stadium and change it to a one-day, single-elimination tournament. It featured the top two regular-season finishers of each of the conference's six-team divisions. East Division second seed Fordham defeated Virginia Tech in the title game to win the tournament for the first time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
