The 19th Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly in Canada was established by the results of the 2019 Northwest Territories general election on October 1, 2019. [1]

In the 2019 election, 9 of the 19 MLAs elected were women, a record in NWT and, proportionally, in all of Canada. Previously, the most sitting women MLAs was three. [2] On July 27, 2021, following the resignation of Jackson Lafferty and the subsequent by-election victory of Jane Weyallon Armstrong, the Legislature had 10 women to 9 men, and became the first jurisdiction in Canada to have a majority of women legislators. [3]

The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, or Legislative Council of the Northwest Territories, is the legislature and the seat of government of Northwest Territories in Canada. Hunter A. Tootoo is a Canadian politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Nunavut from 2015 to 2019. Elected as a Liberal to the House of Commons, he was appointed Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard by Justin Trudeau on November 4, 2015. Tootoo resigned from that position on May 31, 2016, to take a leave from Parliament to seek treatment for alcohol addiction. He returned to Parliament by the end of July 2016 after the completion of his treatment program, but sat as an independent member for the remainder of the 42nd Parliament and did not run for re-election.

Michael McLeod is a Canadian politician, currently serving as a member of Parliament representing the Northwest Territories. He was first elected in the 2015 Canadian federal election, unseating Dennis Bevington, who was the incumbent New Democratic Party MP for the riding. McLeod was a former member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, Canada, as well as the former mayor of Fort Providence.

Robert R. McLeod is a former Canadian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories from 2007 to 2019, and served as the 12th premier of the Northwest Territories, from October 26, 2011 to October 24, 2019.

The 17th Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly was established by the results of the 2011 Northwest Territories general election on October 3, 2011. It was the 25th sitting of the Assembly in the territory's history. The Assembly was dissolved in 2015.

Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh is a territorial electoral district in the Northwest Territories, Canada, which elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. The district consists of the communities of N'Dilo, Lutselk'e, Fort Resolution and Dettah. It had an estimated population of 1,412 in 2012.

Caroline Cochrane is a former Canadian politician, who served as the 13th premier of the Northwest Territories, from 2019 to 2023. She is the second female premier of the Northwest Territories after Nellie Cournoyea, who served from 1991 to 1995.

Julie Green is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 2015 election. She represented the electoral district of Yellowknife Centre. Green was re-elected in 2019. She was acclaimed to the Executive Council in August 2020 and was subsequently appointed Minister of Health and Social Services, Minister Responsible for Seniors and Minister Responsible for Persons with Disabilities.

Kieron Testart is a Canadian politician serving in the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, representing the riding of Range Lake. He is currently serving his second non-consecutive term, having first been elected in the 2015 to the riding of Kam Lake in 2015. Defeated in Kam Lake in the 2019 election by Caitlin Cleveland, Testart sought and won the open seat of Range Lake in the 2023 election four years later.

The 2019 Northwest Territories general election was held on October 1, 2019. Nineteen members were elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories.

Rylund Johnson is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 2019 election. He represented the electoral district of Yellowknife North.

Steve Norn is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 2019 election. He represented the electoral district of Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh.

Jane Weyallon Armstrong is a Canadian politician in the Northwest Territories. She was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in a 2021 by-election, representing the electoral district of Monfwi.

Richard Edjericon is a Canadian politician in the Northwest Territories. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in a 2022 by-election, representing the electoral district of Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh. Edjericon previously ran for the seat in the 2019 election, placing second behind to Steve Norn.

The 2023 Northwest Territories general election was held on November 14, 2023. Nineteen members were elected to the 20th Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly. The Assembly is run on a consensus government system, in which all MLAs sit as independents and are not organized into political parties.
