The Nebraska Cornhuskers are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The university is a member of the Big Ten Conference and competes in NCAA Division I, fielding twenty-four varsity teams in fifteen sports. Nineteen of these teams participate in the Big Ten, while rifle is a member of the single-sport Patriot Rifle Conference and beach volleyball and bowling compete as independents. The Cornhuskers have two official mascots, Herbie Husker and Lil' Red.
Charles Frederick "Karch" Kiraly is an American volleyball player, coach, and broadcast announcer. He was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. He is the only player to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. He played college volleyball for the UCLA Bruins, where his teams won three national championships under head coach Al Scates. Kiraly is widely regarded as the greatest male volleyball player of all time.
"Jenny" Lang Ping is a Chinese former volleyball player and coach. She is the former head coach of the Chinese women's national volleyball team and U.S. women's national volleyball team. As a player, Lang won the most valuable player award in women's volleyball at the 1984 Olympics.
The Japan women's national volleyball team, or All-Japan women's volleyball team, is currently ranked 7th in the world by FIVB. The head coach is Masayoshi Manabe.
The Cuba women's national volleyball team was the first team to break the USSR's and Japan's domination in the world women's volleyball by winning the 1978 World Women's Volleyball Championship.
Julio Velasco is an Argentine former professional volleyball player and coach. He obtained Italian citizenship in 1992. Velasco was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005. He is the head coach of the Italy women's national volleyball team, which he led to the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

John G. Cook is an American volleyball coach who is the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In twenty-five seasons at NU, he has led the Huskers to four national championships and thirteen conference titles. Prior to Nebraska, Cook served as head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers for seven seasons. He earned his 800th career win in 2022 and ranks twelfth all-time in coaching wins in major college volleyball history. Cook is a three-time AVCA National Coach of the Year.

Marvin Alex Dunphy is an American former volleyball player and head coach. He is most known for his time at Pepperdine University. During his tenure, Pepperdine won four NCAA Division I Championships. His career record is 612–277 (.688). He also led the United States men's national volleyball team to the gold medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics. He retired from coaching in 2017.
Taras "Terry" Liskevych was a Ukrainian-American volleyball coach. He served as the United States women's national volleyball team head coach from 1985 to 1996. During his tenure Liskevych posted over 300 international victories.
The Missouri Tigers women's volleyball team represents the University of Missouri in the SEC.
The Japan men's national volleyball team, also referred to as Ryujin Nippon or simply Nippon, represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Japan Volleyball Association. As of September 2024, the team is ranked sixth in the FIVB Senior World Rankings, with their peak coming at second place prior to the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The Michigan State Spartans women's volleyball team was founded in 1972. They play home matches at the Breslin Center, which they moved to in 2022 after playing at Jenison Fieldhouse.
