The inaugural season of the International Fight League (IFL) started in 2006 and was split into two halves.
The first half of the season consisted of two events and only four teams (New York Pitbulls, Los Angeles Anacondas, Quad City Silverbacks, and Seattle Tiger Sharks). The Pat Miletich lead Quad City Silverbacks won the first Championship event defeating the Maurice Smith led Seattle Tiger Sharks on June 3, 2006.
The Second half of the 2006 season saw the addition of four new teams to the IFL (Toronto Dragons, Tokyo Sabres, Portland Wolfpack and San Jose Razorclaws). The championship event was held at the end of the year between defending champions, Quad City Silverbacks and newcomers Portland Wolfpack with the Silverbacks capturing their second consecutive team championship.
Each event in the 2006 season had at least one superfight along with the team format matches.

Trump Entertainment Resorts, Inc. was a gambling and hospitality company. The company previously owned and operated the now-demolished Trump Plaza and Trump World's Fair, the now-closed Trump Marina, Trump Casino & Hotel in Gary, Indiana, Trump 29 in Coachella, California, and Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. It was founded in 1995 as Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts by Donald Trump, who after 2004 held only a minority ownership. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2004, 2009 and 2014. Randall Duane Couture is an American mixed martial arts commentator, actor, former United States Army sergeant, former professional mixed martial artist, and former collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestler. During his tenures in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), he became a three-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, an interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, making him a six-time UFC Champion and the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament winner. He is the first of nine fighters to hold two UFC championship titles in two different divisions. He currently serves as a commentator and analyst for the Professional Fighters League.

Samuel Earl Hoger is an American retired mixed martial artist, poker player, and an actor, most notable for appearing on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, a reality television series produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and broadcast on Spike TV. Hoger has trained with Miletich Fighting Systems in Bettendorf, Iowa and is belted in the Miletich Fighting Systems.
The International Fight League was an American mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion billed as the world's first MMA league. It was founded on January 7, 2006, and closed on July 31, 2008. Instead of the established norm for MMA events, where matchups are strictly one-on-one affairs, each IFL card was a showdown between two camps of at least three fighters, each fighter fighting one match against another in the opposing camps.
The United States Poker Championship (USPC) was a major annual stop on the poker tournament tour. This event was held at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The series started in 1996, took one year off in 1997, and ran every year from 1998–2010. This series of poker tournaments culminated with a $10,000 no-limit Texas hold 'em championship tournament televised by ESPN and commentated by Lon McEachern and Norman Chad. The last time this tournament series was run was 2010.
The Quad Cities Silverbacks was an International Fight League team based in the Quad Cities region of the United States. Coached by former UFC Welterweight Champion and founder of the very successful Miletich Fighting Systems camp, Pat Miletich, the Silverbacks were one of four teams competing in the IFL's inaugural season.

UFC 31: Locked and Loaded was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey on May 4, 2001. The event was seen live on pay-per-view in the United States, and later released on home video.
The Portland Wolfpack were a team in the now-defunct International Fight League and based in Portland, Oregon. The Wolfpack were coached by Olympic silver medalist in Greco Roman Wrestling, Matt Lindland. The Wolfpack were established in the middle of the 2006 season. In their debut season the Wolfpack made it to the 2006 IFL Championship Final but were defeated by the Quad City Silverbacks 1-4. The Wolfpack were associated with the MMA training camp Team Quest based out of Gresham, Oregon.
Rory Markham is an American professional mixed martial artist and actor who most recently acted alongside Will Smith playing Booker Grassie in the latest addition to the Bad Boys franchise Bad Boys for Life. Formerly, Rory competed in the Welterweight, Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Divisions. A professional competitor since 2003, Markham has formerly competed for the UFC and the IFL.
Ryan James Schultz is an American mixed martial artist. A professional from 2003 to 2013, he has competed in the WEC, IFL, and Japan's World Victory Road. He was the last International Fight League Lightweight Champion, competing for Matt Lindland's Portland Wolfpack.
Matthew Peter Horwich was an American mixed martial artist who most recently competed in the Middleweight division. A professional competitor since 2003, Horwich has fought in BAMMA, Strikeforce, Bellator, the UFC, and for the Seattle Tiger Sharks of the IFL where he became the IFL Middleweight Champion in 2007.
Devin Cole is an American mixed martial artist. He is a veteran of the Seattle Tiger Sharks and Portland Wolfpack in the IFL, and has also competed in the WEC, Strikeforce, the World Series of Fighting, and Shark Fights.
In 2007 the team with the most members in the Grand Prix were from the Los Angeles Anacondas with 4. The Toronto Dragons have 3 representatives while the New York Pitbulls, Nevada Lions and San Jose Razorclaws have 2. Due to injuries the Chicago Red Bears and the Seattle Tiger Sharks do not have a member representing them in the 2007 GP.
JakeEllenberger is an American retired mixed martial artist and former United States Marine who was known for competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A professional competitor from 2005–2018, Ellenberger has also formerly competed for the Quad Cities Silverbacks of the IFL, Bodog Fight, and King of the Cage.
Reese Paul Andy is a retired American mixed martial artist. A professional from 2005 until 2008, he fought in the UFC and was a member of the Seattle Tiger Sharks in the IFL.
