The Region 1 2007 CGS Draft was held on June 12, 2007, at The Playboy Mansion in Bel Air, California.

Contents

This was the first ever draft for professional gaming, with Vanessa "Vanessa" Arteaga, being the first ever draft pick in the Championship Gaming Series.

The draft had 6 rounds with each team picking one gamer or a Counter Strike: Source team, the draft was in "snake" order meaning the team that had the first pick in the previous round will get the last pick in the next round, and vice versa.

A draft is a process used in some countries and sports to allocate certain players to teams. In a draft, teams take turns selecting from a pool of eligible players. When a team selects a player, the team receives exclusive rights to sign that player to a contract, and no other team in the league may sign the player. The process is similar to round-robin item allocation.

The Championship Gaming Series (CGS) was a professional esports league based in the United States, that operated from 2007 to 2008. It was a global league that featured teams representing cities from around the world. The CGS aimed to bring a traditional sports league format to competitive gaming, with teams, franchises, and a regular season leading to playoffs and a championship. The CGS was preceded by the 2006 Championship Gaming Invitational, a television pilot featuring several future CGS players. The league was founded in 2007 and was owned and operated by DirecTV in association with British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) and STAR TV. Games played in the CGS included titles such as Counter-Strike: Source, FIFA, Dead or Alive 4, Project Gotham Racing 3, and Forza Motorsport 2. The league had a television broadcast deal, and matches were aired on various networks. Despite initial hype and investment, the CGS faced financial challenges and eventually ceased operations in 2008.

The 1947 BAA draft was the 1st draft of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later became the National Basketball Association (NBA). The fledgling BAA held a joint draft with the established National Basketball League (NBL). Both leagues wanted to control salaries by stamping out competitive bidding by assigning exclusive rights to the team selecting a player. The NBL had already signed 11 players, whom they did not feel should be exposed to the draft. Arteaga was the first pick in the draft of the Championship Gaming Series video game league list of players, excelling in the area of fighting games such as Dead or Alive 4. In the 2007 Championship Gaming Series Season, Vanessa went undefeated leading San Francisco to win first place in the DoA4 Female Individual season. In the 2008 Championship Gaming Series Season, San Francisco Optx with a team of NinjaCW and Vanessa Arteaga finished 2nd to the Birmingham Salvo.

The 2007 WNBA season was their ninth season and their fifth in Connecticut. The Sun attempted to return to the postseason for the fifth consecutive season and were successful.

The 2021 Major League Baseball draft took place on July 11–13, 2021. In conjunction with the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the draft was held in Denver.
