Azerbaijan, officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, is a transcontinental country located at the boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is a part of the South Caucasus region, and is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to the south. Baku is the capital and largest city.
Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Baku is located 28 metres (92 ft) below sea level, which makes it the lowest lying national capital in the world and also the largest city in the world located below sea level. Baku lies on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula, alongside the Bay of Baku. Baku's urban population was estimated at two million people as of 2009. About 25% of all inhabitants of the country live in Baku's metropolitan area. Baku is the sole metropolis in Azerbaijan.
The Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline is a 1,768 kilometres (1,099 mi) long crude oil pipeline from the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It connects Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan and Ceyhan, a port on the south-eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, via Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. It is the second-longest oil pipeline in the former Soviet Union, after the Druzhba pipeline. The first oil that was pumped from the Baku end of the pipeline reached Ceyhan on 28 May 2006.
The 2004-05 Azerbaijan Top League was the thirteenth season of the Top League since its establishment in 1992. The season began on 7 August 2004 and finished on 24 May 2005. Neftchi Baku were the defending champions, having won the previous season, and they retained the title after defeating Khazar Lankaran in a playoff after both teams finished level on points and goal difference.
The 2007–08 Azerbaijan Premier League is the 16th season of Azerbaijan Premier League, the Azerbaijani professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Khazar Lankaran were the defending champions, having won the previous season.
The Azerbaijan Cup 2004–05 was the 13th season of the annual cup competition in Azerbaijan with the final taking place on 28 May 2005. Sixteen teams competed in this year's competition. Neftchi Baku were the defending champions.
The Inter Baku 2007–08 season was Inter Baku's seventh Azerbaijan Premier League season, and their second season under manager Valentin Khodukin. They finished won the league on goal difference over Olimpik Baku and where runners-up in the Cup.
The 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 16 September to 22 September 2019. The competition took place at the National Gymnastics Arena and served as a qualifier to the 2020 Olympic Games. There were Olympic berths awarded to 16 individuals and 5 groups. There were 301 participating athletes from 61 countries.
