The 2007–08 season saw Dundee compete in the Scottish First Division after coming 3rd place the season prior. [1] Dundee finished in 2nd position with 69 points, 7 points behind eventual league winners Hamilton Academical. [2]

Although missing out on the automatic promotion slot through winning the league, United won promotion through the play-off system, beating Partick Thistle 3–2 over two legs. United secured the play-off on the final day of the season, drawing with 3rd-placed Morton and finishing 2nd on goal difference.

Raith Rovers finished the 2007–08 season third in the Scottish Second Division with 47 points. Graham Weir was the top scorer with 12 goals. The club were involved in the Scottish First Division play-offs against Airdrie United with the second leg on 3 May ending 2–2. Raith lost the home leg 2–0 on 30 April.

The 1996–97 Scottish Premier Division season was the penultimate season of Scottish Premier Division football before the change to the Scottish Premier League. It began on 10 August 1996.

The 1995–96 Scottish Premier Division season was the second season involving a relegation playoff with the Scottish First Division. The season began on 26 August 1995.

The 1994–95 Scottish Premier Division season began on 13 August 1994; it was the first season of the new ten team league format, and also the first season using the rule of awarding three points for a win.

The 1993–94 Scottish Premier Division season began on 7 August 1993 and was the last season of the twelve-team league, with three teams relegated to make way for the ten-team league the following season. It was also the final season with the rule of awarding two points for a win, with three points given from then on.

The 2009–10 Scottish First Division was the fifteenth season of the First Division in its current format of ten teams.

Dundee would finish the league season in 5th place with 46 points, their highest finish in Scottish football since 1973–74. Dundee would also compete in the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup, where they were knocked out by Alloa Athletic in the 2nd round of the League Cup, and by Greenock Morton in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup.
