The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula. It is established by the provisions of the Korean Armistice Agreement to serve as a buffer zone between North Korea and South Korea. The demilitarized zone (DMZ) is a border barrier that divides the Korean Peninsula roughly in half. It was created by agreement between North Korea, the People's Republic of China and the United Nations Command in 1953. The DMZ is 250 kilometres long, and about 4 kilometres wide.

The DPR Korea League is the football league-system championship in North Korea. As of the 2017–18 season, the top level is called the DPR Korea Premier Football League, featuring thirteen teams that, for the first time, play a full season of home-and-away matches. The current season started on 1 December 2017 and will continue until 28 October 2018.

The team played their home games at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, a district of the city of Toronto, Canada. The team's colours are orange and black. April 25 Sports Club, or 4.25 SC for short, is a multi-sports club in North Korea based in P'yŏngyang, primarily known outside of North Korea for its men's and women's football teams. The club belongs to the Korean People's Army; all members of the professional teams are considered officers of the Army.

Republican Championship was a football knockout cup competition in North Korea. The championship was launched in October, 1972. This championship was held from September through October. Initially held every autumn, after 2007 it was held only every other year. It was last held in 2011, and was replaced in 2013 by the Hwaebul Cup first held that year.

The 2017–18 DPR Korea Premier Football League is the first season of the reformed DPR Korea Premier Football League, the top North Korean association football league, to use a home-and-away format. The league started on 1 December 2017 and will continue until 28 October 2018. Matches will be played on Saturdays and Sundays only.
