Overview

Twelve teams took part in the 2015 Highest Class Football League, with the tournament held as a simple round-robin tournament. [1] The participating teams were April 25, Hwaebul, Kigwancha, Kyŏnggong'ŏp, Ponghwasan, Sobaeksu, P'yŏngyang City, Rimyŏngsu, Myohyangsan, Chobyŏng, Amrokkang, and Sŏnbong. [2] [3] Chobyŏng had earned promotion to the top flight for the first time after winning the second division, [4] but they finished last in 2015 and were once again relegated.

April 25 Sports Club association football club

April 25 Sports Club, or 4.25 SC for short, is a multi-sports club in North Korea based in P'yŏngyang, primarily known outside of North Korea for its men's and women's football teams. The club belongs to the Korean People's Army; all members of the professional teams are considered officers of the Army.

Hwaebul Sports Club

Hwaebul Sports Club is an association football club from Pochon, North Korea, founded in 2013. It is the sports club of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League and is based at the 5,000 capacity Hwaebul Stadium. They are presently playing in the DPR Korea Premier Football League.

Kigwancha Sports Club North Korean football club

Kigwancha Sports Club or Kigwancha Sports Team is a North Korean multi-sports club belonging to the Korean State Railway and based in Pyongyang. It was established on 11 January 1956, and has been awarded the Order of Kim Il-sung and the Order of the National Flag. The club is best known for its men's and women's football teams.

The Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, also known as the May Day Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Rungra Island, Pyongyang, North Korea which was opened on 1 May 1989. Its first major event was the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students. It is the largest stadium in the world, with a total capacity of approximately 114,000. The site occupies an area of 20.7 hectares. It is commonly confused with the nearby 50,000 capacity Kim Il-sung Stadium due to proximity, but possesses unique size and seating capacities which provide distinction.

Pyongyang,P'yŏngyang or Pyeongyang, is the capital and largest city of North Korea. Pyongyang is located on the Taedong River about 109 kilometres (68 mi) upstream from its mouth on the Yellow Sea. According to the 2008 population census, it has a population of 3,255,288. The city was split from the South Pyongan province in 1946. It is administered as a directly-administered city with equal status to provinces, the same as special cities in South Korea, including Seoul.

April 25 "routed" Ponghwasan in the first match of the tournament. [2]

Rimyŏngsu started the match offensively with a quick-passing game that gave them an early lead, but Kyŏnggong'ŏp countered with creative passes and combinations, and soon equalised on a counter-attack. The game went back and forth, and eventually Rimyŏngsu were able to eke out a 4-3 victory. [2]

April 25 was dominant in this match, but Hwaebul proved sufficiently resilient to hold on to a 1-1 draw. [2]

Hwaebul Cup

The final of the 2015 edition of the Hwaebul Cup was held at the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in P'yŏngyang. April 25 defeated Kigwanch'a by a score of 5-1. [7]

Man'gyŏngdae Prize

The 2015 edition of the Man'gyŏngdae Prize was won by April 25, who defeated Kigwanch'a in the final with a score of 1-0. [8]

Osandŏk Prize

The first competition for the Osandŏk Prize in football was held at Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in P'yŏngyang starting on 5 December 2015. [9] Hwaebul won the inaugural prize. [10]

Poch'ŏnbo Torch Prize

The 2015 edition of the Poch'ŏnbo Torch Prize was won by P'yŏngyang City, who defeated Rimyŏngsu 2-1 in extra time in the final, played at Kim Il-sung Stadium in P'yŏngyang. [11]

The competition was held between 15 and 28 August 2013, with all matches played at the Kim Il-sung Stadium in P'yŏngyang. The competition was arranged in two phases, a group stage followed by a single-elimination play-off semi-finals, and a single-game final.

The 2016 Hwaebul Cup was the fourth edition of the Hwaebul Cup celebrating North Korea's Youth Day. The competition was held between 27 July and 28 August 2016, with all matches played at the Sŏsan Stadium in P'yŏngyang. The competition was arranged in two phases, a group stage followed by a single-elimination play-off semi-finals, and a single-game final. April 25 won the title for the fourth straight time.

Ryŏmyŏng finished second, whilst Hwaebul and Kigwancha placed third and fourth respectively.

Ryomyong Sports Club is an association football club based in P'yŏngyang, North Korea, they play in a red home kit.

The 2018–19 DPR Korea Premier Football League is the second season of the reformed DPR Korea Premier Football League, the top North Korean association football league, to use a home-and-away format. The league started on 1 December 2018 and will continue until October 2019. Matches will be played on Saturdays and Sundays only.
