The 2015 Piala Indonesia was originally to be the seventh edition of Piala Indonesia , the nationwide football cup tournament in Indonesia, involving professional clubs from Indonesian Premier League and Premier Division. [1] Persibo Bojonegoro would have been the tournament's defending champions. [2] The competition was cancelled on 2 May 2015 when Imam Nahrawi, the Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, banned the Football Association of Indonesia from running any football competition.

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) organized the full professional cup competition from 2005 until now. Traditionally, the tournament involves clubs from the whole layers of football competitions, which are Liga 1, Liga 2, and Liga 3.

Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Bojonegoro commonly known as Persibo, is an Indonesian football club in Bojonegoro, East Java. They currently compete in the Liga 3. In 2010, Persibo played in the Indonesia Super League after winning Divisi Utama previous season. In 2012, Persibo won Piala Indonesia after defeating Semen Padang in the final and represented Indonesia in 2013 AFC Cup.

The 2012 Piala Indonesia Final was a football match that took place on 14 July 2012 at Sultan Agung Stadium in Bantul. It was the sixth final of Piala Indonesia and contested by Persibo Bojonegoro and Semen Padang FC. Persibo won the match 1–0 courtesy of a goal from Dian Irawan in the 50th minute to give them their first Piala Indonesia title. As winners, they gained entry to the 2013 AFC Cup.

The 2020 Malaysia Cup was the 94th edition of Malaysia Cup tournament organised by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and Malaysian Football League (MFL). Winners would qualify directly to 2021 AFC Cup group stage. Since the tournament had been cancelled, the spot was passed down to the third-placed team in the League.

The 2022–23 Piala Indonesia was supposed to be the ninth edition of the Piala Indonesia football tournament, involving clubs from Liga 1, Liga 2, and Liga 3. 64 clubs would have entered this competition.
