The 2009 Dubai World Cup was a horse race held at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse on Saturday 28 March 2009. It was the 14th running of the Dubai World Cup. It was the last edition of the Dubai World Cup to be run on dirt at Nad Al Sheba before being switched to the synthetic Tapeta surface at Meydan Racecourse.

Well Armed had been trained in England by Clive Brittain in the early part of his career before being transferred to the Harty's American stable in 2007. Racing in California, he showed his best form on synthetic tracks winning the San Antonio Handicap, the San Diego Handicap and the Goodwood Stakes. In the 2008 Dubai World Cup he finished third behind Curlin and Asiatic Boy. In the 2009 Dubai World Cup he started at odds of 10/1 and won by a record margin of fourteen lengths from the French-trained Gloria de Campeao, with the South African-bred, Saudi Arabian-trained runner Paris Perfect four and a half lengths away in third. The 2/1 favourite Asiatic Boy finished twelfth of the fourteen runners.^[1]

The Dubai World Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1996 and contested at the Meydan Racecourse (Arabic:ميدان) which in Arabic suggests a place where people congregate and compete, a sort of meeting point in the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Presvis was a British Thoroughbred racehorse. Although he did not race until the age of four and never won a major race in his native country he was one of the most financially successful British-trained horses of all-time, winning well over £4 million in prize money. He was trained throughout his career by Luca Cumani and ridden in most of his major races by Ryan Moore. The gelding was suited by extreme "hold-up" tactics and was usually restrained at the rear of the field before being produced for a late run in the straight. He was rated among the world's hundred best racehorses in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Vazirabad is a French Thoroughbred racehorse. He is a specialist stayer who has shown his best form over extended distances. He was unraced as a juvenile but made a major impact as a three-year-old in 2015 when he won the Prix de Lutèce, Prix Chaudenay and Prix Royal-Oak and was rated among the top 50 racehorses in the world. In the following year he won the Dubai Gold Cup, Prix Vicomtesse Vigier, Prix Gladiateur and a second Prix Royal-Oak. As a five-year-old he repeated his victories in the Dubai Gold Cup, Prix Vicomtesse Vigier and Prix Gladiateur as well as taking the Prix du Cadran. In 2018 he recorded further wins in both the Dubai Gold Cup and Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.
