The 2009 Pan-Pacific Championship was the second edition of the Pan-Pacific Championship. It was held in February 2009 in Carson, California, United States and featured the champions from the Chinese Super League and K-League, J. League Cup winners, and the hosts, Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.
The Galaxy faced the Japanese representative, Oita Trinita, in the semi-final stage for the second successive year after facing Gamba Osaka in the 2008 competition, [1] and this time they won the match. In the other semi-final, Korean side Suwon Samsung Bluewings beat Shandong Luneng Taishan of China.
Oita Trinita beat Shandong Luneng 2–1 to finish third in the tournament and Suwon Bluewings won the trophy after a 4–2 penalty shootout win over the Galaxy.

Suwon Samsung Bluewings is a South Korean professional football club based in Suwon, South Korea, who currently play in the K League Classic. Suwon Samsung Bluewings' first participation in Asian competition was during the 1999 season, when they competed in the Asian Club Championship, their first match was against PSIS Semarang of Indonesia.

The match was sponsored by Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. and played at Yellow Dragon Sports Center on 14 February 2015, contested by Super League winners Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao and FA Cup winners Shandong Luneng Taishan. Shandong Luneng Taishan defeated Guangzhou Evergrande 5–3 in the penalty shoot-out, thus winning their first Chinese FA Super Cup title, and Guangzhou lost for three consecutive years.
The 2018 season was Kashima Antlers's 26th consecutive season in the J1 League since professional football was established in Japan in 1993.
