As an amateur boxer, he won a silver medal in the bantamweight division (-54 kg) at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. In the final he lost to Cuba's Juan Hernández on points (0-5).
Maurizio Stecca is a retired Italian boxer, who won the Bantamweight Gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He is the younger brother of former super bantamweight world champion of boxing, Loris Stecca.
Héctor López Colín was a Mexican professional boxer. He challenged for the WBC lightweight title in 1993 and the WBO light welterweight title twice between 1995 and 1999. At regional level he held the WBC-NABF light welterweight title twice between 1992 and 1993, and the WBO-NABO light welterweight title between 1996 and 1997. As an amateur he represented Mexico at the 1984 Olympics, winning a silver medal in the bantamweight division.
Hugh Russell is a former professional boxer from Northern Ireland who competed from 1981 to 1985. He held the British bantamweight title in 1983, and the British flyweight title from 1984 to 1985. As an amateur, he won bronze medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and the 1980 Summer Olympics, both in the flyweight division.
Pentti Olavi Hämäläinen was a Finnish boxer. He competed at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics and won a gold and a bronze medal, respectively. He won two more bronze medals at European championships in 1951 and 1955. Domestically he won six Finnish titles between 1951 and 1956, two in flyweight, two in bantamweight and two in featherweight division. After the 1956 Olympics he turned professional and won five consecutive bouts. He lost his sixth bout in 1959 and retired from boxing, after which he worked as a mechanic and a policeman. Four of his brothers also competed in boxing at the national level. Pentti Hämäläinen died in 1984, aged 54, of undisclosed causes.

After retiring from boxing, Carreras worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
