The Golden Hawks were coached by Rick Osborne. Assisting Osborne was Jim Rayburn, Cindy Eadie, and Bruce Chapman. The Golden Hawks played home games at Sunlife Financial Arena. The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, commonly shortened to Laurier Golden Hawks, is the name used by the varsity sports teams of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The university's varsity teams compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports and, where applicable, in the west division.
U Sports women's ice hockey is the highest level of play of women's ice hockey at the university level under the auspices of U Sports, Canada's governing body for university sports. Women's ice hockey has been played in U Sports since the 1997-98 season, when the governing body was known as the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union, following a long stint of teams only competing in the OUA. There are 35 teams, all of which are based in Canada, that are divided into four conferences that are eligible to compete for the year-end championship. As these players compete at the university level, they are obligated to follow the rule of standard eligibility of five years. This competition is considered as the second level in the pyramid of Canadian women's hockey, below the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL).

Ontario University Athletics is a regional membership association for Canadian universities which assists in co-ordinating competition between their university level athletic programs and providing contact information, schedules, results, and releases about those programs and events to the public and the media. This is similar to what would be called a college athletic conference in the United States. OUA, which covers Ontario, is one of four such bodies that are members of the country's governing body for university athletics, U Sports. The other three regional associations coordinating university-level sports in Canada are Atlantic University Sport (AUS), the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CW), and Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ).
Cheryl Pounder is a women's ice hockey player. She played defence for the Canadian Women's Hockey League's Mississauga Chiefs, and competed in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics.

The 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season began on October 2, 2009, ending with the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 21, 2010 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. It marked the third time that Minneapolis had hosted the Frozen Four. The tournament's opening round was scheduled for Friday, February 26, 2010, followed by the Final Faceoff on Saturday through Sunday, March 6–7, 2010. The quarterfinals were played on Friday through Saturday, March 12–13, 2010, with the Frozen Four played on Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20, 2010.

The Golden Hawks were a member of the Ontario University Athletics and qualified for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey championship game.
The 2009-10 CIS women's ice hockey season began in October 2009 and ended with the Alberta Pandas claiming the 2010 CIS National Championship.
The McGill Martlets ice hockey team represents McGill University, based in Montreal, Quebec in U Sports women's ice hockey. They are members of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and have won four U Sports women's ice hockey championships. Some players have participated internationally, including in the World Student Games. Home games are played at McConnell Arena.
The McGill Martlets represented McGill University in the 2010-11 Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's hockey season. The Martlets attempted to win their third Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey championship. Their head coach was Peter Smith and he was assisted by Amey Doyle, Stewart McCarthey and Shauna Denis. The Martlets captured the CIS title on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over the St. Francis Xavier X-Women

The team competes as a member of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA), under the U Sports association. The Golden Hawks play their home games at Sunlife Financial Arena.
Elizabeth "Liz" Knox is a Canadian retired ice hockey goaltender. She ranks second all-time among Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) goaltenders for games played and won the Clarkson Cup in 2018. An outspoken leader among players, she served as chair of the CWHL Player's Association and was a founding board member of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) after the collapse of the CWHL. After her retirement from playing in 2019, she continued to serve as a board member with the PWHPA until resigning in September 2020 to make way for Sarah Nurse.
The 2011–12 Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey season represented a season of play in Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey. The Calgary Dinos women's ice hockey program claimed their first CIS national title.
Queen's Gaels women's ice hockey is the representative women's ice hockey program of Queen's University at Kingston in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The team plays in the women's ice hockey section of Ontario University Athletics (OUA), one of the four regional governing bodies that comprise U Sports.
Gary Jeffries is the former head coach for Wilfrid Laurier University's football team, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. He served as the team's head coach from 2002 to 2012, winning the CIS Coach of the Year award in 2003 and a Vanier Cup championship in 2005. Collegiately, he played CIAU football and hockey for the Guelph Gryphons and football for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Jeffries also played baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization from 1966-1969.

Ashley Stephenson is a former two-sport athlete from Ontario who played baseball for Canada women's national baseball team and ice hockey in the original NWHL and the CWHL. She won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Devon Skeats is a retired Canadian ice hockey forward, who played for the Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) and the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), winning both an Isobel Cup and a Clarkson Cup.
