The 2011 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented California Polytechnic State University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The team's head coach was Tim Walsh. The Mustangs played their home games at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California and were football members of the Great West Conference.

With a win over South Dakota on October 29, the Mustangs clinched a share of the conference championship which they shared with North Dakota. The title was Cal Poly's fourth conference title since the conference's creation in 2004. They finished the season with an overall record of 6–5, 3–1 in Great West play.

This was the Mustangs final season as a member of the Great West as they became a football-only member of the Big Sky Conference in the 2012 season.

Great West Conference

The Great West Conference (GWC) was an NCAA college athletic conference in the continental United States. Originally a football-only league, it became an all-sports entity during the 2008–09 season. The GWC stopped sponsoring football following the 2011 season. The conference became defunct when four of the remaining five full member schools became members of other conferences on July 1, 2013.

The UC Davis Aggies football team represents the University of California, Davis in the second-tier NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) intercollegiate competition. The UC Davis football program began competing in 1915, and has fielded a team each year since with the exception of 1918 during World War I and from 1943 to 1945 during World War II, when the campus, then known as the University Farm, was shut down. UC Davis competed as a member of the NCAA College Division through 1972. From 1973 to 2006, the Aggies competed within the NCAA Division II. In 2007, UC Davis promoted its football program to the Division I FCS level, and joined the Great West Conference. UC Davis has secured a total of 30 conference championships. Between 1929 and 1992, the Aggies captured 27 outright or shared Northern California Athletic Conference championships, including 20 in a row from 1971 to 1990. In 1993, UC Davis shared the American West Conference title, and in 2005 (co-champion) and 2009 the Aggies won the Great West Conference.

The Cal Poly Mustangs men's soccer program represents the Cal Poly Mustangs of California Polytechnic State University in men's soccer at the NCAA Division I level. Cal Poly is coached by former United States men's national team head coach Steve Sampson. Like most teams from Cal Poly, they play in the Big West Conference. The Big West Conference stopped sponsoring soccer in 1991 but resumed soccer in 2001. Over this period, Cal Poly competed in a regional conference called the MPSF. They have since returned to the Big West and as of 2019 have appeared in 2 NCAA tournaments, most recently in 2015. The Mustangs play in Alex G. Spanos Stadium on the campus of the California Polytechnic State University.

They finished the season 3–8, 2–6 in Big Sky play to finish in a five-way tie for ninth place. On November 25, 2019, Tim Walsh announced his retirement. He finished with a 176–148 record in 29 seasons.
