The Mustangs were led by 11th-year head coach Tim Walsh [1] and played their home games at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. They were members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 3–8, 2–6 in Big Sky play to finish in a five-way tie for ninth place. On November 25, 2019, Tim Walsh announced his retirement. He finished with a 176–148 record in 29 seasons. [2]
The Big Sky released their preseason media and coaches' polls on July 15, 2019. The Mustangs were picked to finish in ninth place in both polls. [3]

The Cal Poly Mustangs are the football team representing California Polytechnic State University located in San Luis Obispo, California.
Beau Daniel Baldwin is an American football coach and former player. He is the former offensive coordinator at Arizona State. Previously, He was the head football coach at California Polytechnic State University, a position he held from December 2019 to 2022. Baldwin previously served as the head football coach at Central Washington University in 2007 and at Eastern Washington University from 2008 to 2016. He led the 2010 Eastern Washington Eagles football team to an NCAA Division I Football Championship. Baldwin was the offensive coordinator at University of California, Berkeley from 2017 to 2019.
The Cal Poly Mustangs are the athletic teams representing California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. The university fields twenty-one teams and compete in NCAA Division I; they are primarily members of the Big West Conference, but the football team plays in the Big Sky Conference, the wrestling team is an associate member of the Pac-12 Conference, and the swimming and diving program competes as an affiliate member in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
