2011 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV

Last updated

The Asia/Oceania Zone is one of the three zones of regional Davis Cup competition in 2011.

Davis Cup annual international team competition in mens tennis

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. The competition began in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States. By 2016, 135 nations entered teams into the competition. The most successful countries over the history of the tournament are the United States and Australia. The present champions are Croatia, who beat France to win their second title in 2018.

Contents

In the Asia/Oceania Zone there are four different groups in which teams compete against each other to advance to the next group.

Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan were promoted.

Participating teams

The Bahrain Davis Cup team represents Bahrain in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Bahrain Tennis Federation.

The Bangladesh Davis Cup team represents Bangladesh in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Bangladesh Tennis Federation.

The Iraq Davis Cup team represents Iraq in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Iraqi Tennis Federation.

Format

The eight teams were split in two groups and played in a round-robin format. The group winners played the runners-up from the other group, and the winning teams were promoted to the Asia/Oceania Zone Group III in 2012.

A round-robin tournament is a competition in which each contestant meets all other contestants in turn. A round-robin contrasts with an elimination tournament, in which participants are eliminated after a certain number of losses.

It was played on 13–16 April 2011 at the National Tennis Complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
