Four top teams from Euroleague participated in this tournament - CSKA Moscow, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Panathinaikos Athens and Žalgiris Kaunas. Žalgiris Kaunas took the gold, in the end.

Armenak Misakovich Alachachian was an Armenian-Soviet basketball player and coach. During his club playing career, the point guard reached European stardom with CSKA Moscow and the senior men's Soviet Union national team. He was the first person to ever win a EuroLeague title, as both a player and a head coach.

The Alexander Gomelsky EuroLeague Coach of the Year is an annual award of Europe's premier level basketball league, the EuroLeague, that is given to each season's best head coach. The award was first introduced in the 2004–05 season. The winner of the award receives the Alexander Gomelsky Trophy, named after the Russian head basketball coach, who among other achievements, led Rīgas ASK to three consecutive EuroLeague titles, between 1958 and 1960, before adding one more with CSKA Moscow in 1971.

The four teams face off in the semifinal bracket; the two winners of each match play each other, while the losers also play each other for third place. The hosts CSKA Moscow have won seven consecutive titles since 2010 till 2016, and in 2018-2020 and it is the current champion.

The VTB United League Supercup, also credited as VTB League Super Cup, is a men's professional basketball supercup competition between teams from the VTB United League. Its main sponsor is VTB Bank. It is a regional competition, that is contested between teams from five countries: Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Poland. In the first edition of the Supercup in 2021 all participants were from Russia.
