The 2012 Conference USA Football Championship Game was played on December 1, 2012 between the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, winners of the Conference USA West division and the UCF Knights, the winners of the East division. [1]

It was the third match-up between the Golden Hurricane and Knights in the C-USA Championship Game and the first in Tulsa. [2] [3] The two teams previously met in 2005 and 2007, which were both played in Orlando. [4]

Under conference rules, the game was held at the home field of the team with the best record in conference play; since both teams finished C-USA play at 7–1, but Tulsa defeated UCF in their head-to-head match-up two weeks earlier, the game was held at the Golden Hurricane's home field, Skelly Field at H. The UCF Knights football team represents the University of Central Florida (UCF) in the sport of American football. The 2007 season was the first year the Knights played all of their home games at Bright House Networks Stadium, which they had just opened on the main campus of UCF in Orlando, Florida. In addition, the team changed its nickname from "Golden Knights" back to simply "Knights." From 1979 to 1992, the team had been known as the Knights, then changed to "Golden Knights" from 1993 until 2006.

War on I-4 Rivalry between the South Florida Bulls and UCF Knights

The War on I-4 is a college rivalry between the University of Central Florida Knights and University of South Florida Bulls. The rivalry is best known for its college football matchup which originated in a series of football games played from 2005 to 2008 and now takes place on Thanksgiving weekend, the de facto "rivalry weekend" for FBS football. In 2013, when UCF joined the American Athletic Conference, the schools began competing annually in all sports. In 2016, the schools officially adopted the "War on I-4" as an official competition series. Each year, the team with the most wins across all sports receives a gold trophy styled after an Interstate 4 (I-4) road sign with the logos of each school. The winner of the annual football game also receives a similar trophy.
