President's Cup is said to be the first tournament in the Maldives and also the birth of Football in the Maldives. The very first tournament was held in 1946, with 2006 seeing its 50th edition. The first edition ended with Customs and Naadhee Ahthamadhun both sharing the trophy.

Rilwan Waheed is a Maldivian professional footballer. Nicknamed "Riley", he plays as a winger for Club Green Streets and the Maldives national team.

The age group of this tournament is Under-21. This tournament is supported by the Japan Football Association.

2015 Dhivehi Premier League Football league season

The 2015 Dhivehi Premier League was the first season of the Dhivehi Premier League, the top division of Maldivian football. The season began on 20 April 2015. The league was made up of the 8 clubs that broke away from the Dhivehi League at the end of the 2014 season.
