The POMIS Cup (known fully as President of Maldives Invitational Soccer Cup) is an international club football tournament kicked off in 1987 to promote the standards of local football in Maldives. [1] This is the only international soccer club tournament held in the Maldives.

Due to various reasons, Football Association of Maldives (FAM) was not able to stage the tournament in the years of 2002 and 2004 to 2014.

In 2003, two foreign clubs from India and Sri Lanka competed in the cup, Mahindra United and Negombo Youth. [2]

On 22 December 2014, Football Association of Maldives (FAM) normalisation committee decided to introduce POMIS Cup again and started in January 2015. In 2015, the top two teams of Dhivehi League played against two foreign teams in the POMIS Cup. [3]

From 2016 onward, there will be no pomis cup rebranded to sheikh Jamal cup to participate the tournament along withforeign teams. On 19 January 2015, POMIS Cup committee rebranded the President of Maldives Invitational Soccer Cup to the People of Maldives Invitational Soccer Cup.

President's Cup is said to be the first tournament in the Maldives and also the birth of football in the Maldives. The very first tournament was held in 1946, with 2006 seeing its 50th edition. The first edition ended with Customs and Naadhee Ahthamadhun both sharing the trophy.

The 2001 POMIS Cup was the 15th POMIS cup, an international soccer club tournament held in Maldives. The group stage started on 26 October 2001, and the final was played on 6 November 2001 at the Rasmee Dhandu Stadium, Malé, Maldives.

During the 2015 Dhivehi football season, New Radiant S.C. is competing in the inaugural season of the Dhivehi Premier League.

New Radiant Sports Club is a Maldivian professional football club based in Henveiru – Malé, Maldives. The club was founded on 19 August 1979 by Ahmed Waheed and his friend Ahammadhanik. New Radiant has won all domestic competitions being held in the Maldives and the club is the most successful in the Maldives in terms of trophies won and is also the most successful Maldivian club in the international arena. They were semi-finalists in the AFC Cup in 2005 and the only Maldivian club to have progressed beyond group stages in the AFC cup in multiple occasions.
