Jennifer Capriati defeated Martina Hingis in the final, 6–4, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2001 Australian Open. Following her win, Capriati re-entered the top 10 ranking for the first time since 1993.
Roger Federer defeated Marat Safin in the final, 7–6(7–3), 6–4, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 Australian Open. It was his first Australian Open title and second Major title overall.
