The 2012 Manly Warringah Sea Eagles season was the 63rd in the club's history. Coached by Geoff Toovey and co-captained by Jamie Lyon and Jason King, they competed in the National Rugby League's 2012 Telstra Premiership, finishing the regular season 4th (out of 16). Having made their eighth consecutive finals series, the Sea Eagles then came to within one match of the 2012 NRL Grand Final but lost to eventual premiers the Melbourne Storm.
The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are an Australian professional rugby league team named after the Manly and Warringah areas of Sydney's Northern Beaches in which the club is based. They compete in the National Rugby League's (NRL's) Telstra Premiership, the premier rugby league competition of Australia. The club first appeared in the 1947 New South Wales Rugby Football League season and currently plays home matches out of its ground, Brookvale Oval whilst training at the New South Wales Academy of Sport in Narrabeen. The Sea Eagles have never received the wooden spoon making them the current record holders of longest time going without a wooden spoon which is over 70 years since their founding, still going to this day.
Geoffrey "Geoff" Toovey is the former head coach of the Bradford Bulls and former professional rugby league footballer. Toovey played halfback for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, then played as a hooker later in his career at the Northern Eagles. He played 286 first-grade matches in all, and captained Manly to the 1996 ARL premiership and the 1995 and 1997 grand finals. He played in 13 international matches for Australia between 1991 and 1998. Toovey is the former head coach of Manly-Warringah.
Jamie Lyon is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer of the 2000s and 2010s. An Australian international and New South Wales State of Origin representative goal-kicking centre, he played his first club football for the Parramatta Eels before joining Super League with English club St. Helens, with whom he won the 2006 Championship and Challenge Cup titles and regarded as saints best ever centre. Lyon then returned to the NRL with Manly Warringah, winning the 2008 and 2011 grand finals with them. Originally a five-eighth, he switched to the centre position in 2009 and was regarded as one of the best centres in the game, winning the Dally M Centre of the year in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014, RLIF Centre of the Year in 2011 and 2013, and Dally M Captain of the Year in 2012 and again in 2014 individually. In 2016, he became the fourth player to score 100 tries and 500 goals.
Shortly after their 2011 NRL Grand Final victory, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles' head coach, Des Hasler left for cross-town rivals the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, leaving his assistant Geoff Toovey to take up the head coach role. The Sea Eagles started their season, and Toovey his coaching career, by travelling to England for the 2012 World Club Challenge.
The 2011 NRL Grand Final was the conclusive and premiership-deciding game of the NRL's 2011 Telstra Premiership season. It was played between the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and the New Zealand Warriors on the afternoon of Sunday, 2 October, and it was the first time the two sides have met in a grand final. Manly won the match, 24–10, for the club's eighth premiership.
Des Hasler is an Australian professional rugby league coach who is the head coach of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the NRL, and a former professional rugby league footballer.
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership, as well as the New South Wales Rugby League junior competitions.

Matthew Ballin is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who last played for the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League and also the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Under 20's Head Coach. He has played one game for Queensland in State of Origin. He played at hooker and previously played for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, with whom he won the 2008 and 2011 Premierships.
Jorge Taufua is a professional rugby league footballer who plays as a winger for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in the NRL. He played for both Tonga and Samoa at international level.
Joe Galuvao is a former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s in the NRL. A Samoa and New Zealand international second row forward, he played for the Auckland Warriors, Parramatta Eels, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Penrith Panthers and Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
