The Liberal Party of Honduras is a left-wing liberal political party in Honduras that was founded in 1891. It is the oldest extant political party in the country; further, it is one of the two main parties that have, until recently, dominated Honduran politics. The party is a member of the Liberal International. The PLH is identified with the colours red and white, as the flag Francisco Morazán used in most of his military campaigns during time of the Central American Federal Republic.
The National Congress is the legislative branch of the government of Honduras.
The National Party of Honduras is a conservative political party in Honduras founded on 27 February 1902, by Manuel Bonilla Chirinos. Historically it has been one of the two most influential parties in the country. The party's platform is based on Christian humanist doctrine, and its five main principles are common wealth, dignity of the human person, equality, solidarity and subsidiarity.
The Christian Democratic Party of Honduras, known by the abbreviation DC, is a political party in Honduras. At the legislative elections, held on 25 November 2001, DC won 3.7% of the popular vote and three out of 128 seats in the National Congress. Its candidate at the presidential elections, Marco Orlando Iriarte, won 1.0% of the vote.
Liga de Ascenso is the second division of Honduran football; it was founded on 17 December 1979 as Segunda División and renamed Liga de Ascenso on 21 July 2002. The league is divided into 4 groups: Zona Norte y Atlántica, Zona Norte y Occidente, Zona Centro y Sur, Zona Sur y Oriente. The top 2 teams of each group qualifies for the liguilla (play-offs). Each season is divided into two tournaments, Apertura (opening) and Clausura (closing). The champions of the opening and closing tournament compete for the promotion to Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras in a two-legged match.
Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado, also known by his initials JOH, is a Honduran lawyer, politician and convicted drug trafficker who was 38th president of Honduras from January 27, 2014 to January 27, 2022 for two consecutive terms.
Tegucigalpa —formally Tegucigalpa, Municipality of the Central District, and colloquially referred to as Tegus or Teguz—is the capital and largest city of Honduras along with its sister city, Comayagüela.
A deadly fire occurred on 14–15 February 2012 at the National Penitentiary in Comayagua, Honduras, killing 361 people. Prisoners trapped in their cells died by burning or suffocation; dozens were burned beyond recognition. The fire started late in the evening of 14 February. According to one prisoner, calls for help went out almost immediately and "for a while, nobody listened. But after a few minutes, which seemed like an eternity, a guard appeared with keys and let us out." Rescue forces did not arrive until about 40 minutes later.
The 2012–13 season is F.C. Motagua's 62nd season in existence and the club's 47th consecutive season in the top fight of Honduran football. The domestic league will be divided into two tournaments, Apertura and Clausura. The Apertura was scheduled to be played in the second half of 2012, while the Clausura in the first half of 2013. Motagua will be looking for its 13th domestic championship. Due to an unsuccessful 2011–12 season, the club won't have international participation.

The season was divided into two tournaments and determined the 61st and 62nd national champions. The campaign began on 28 July 2012, and ended in May 2013. Club Deportivo Olimpia was the reigning champions after winning in 2011–12.
General elections were held in Honduras on 24 November 2013. Voters went to the polls to elect a new President, the 128 members of the National Congress, 298 Mayors and vice-mayors and their respective councilors and 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament.
Ángel Alfredo Villatoro Rivera was a Honduran journalist and radio personality, who was kidnapped and killed in 2012 and is regarded as a "journalist martyr". He was one of the seven journalists killed in Honduras in 2012.
Salvador Alejandro César Nasralla Salum is a Honduran industrial civil engineer, sports journalist, television presenter, businessman, and politician who served as the First Vice President of Honduras from 2022 until his resignation in 2024.
The 2015–16 Honduran Liga Nacional season was the 50th Honduran Liga Nacional edition, since its establishment in 1965. For this season, the system format remained the same as the previous season. The tournament began on 31 July 2015 and ended on 22 May 2016.

Previously Tábora has been Honduras Ambassador to the United States and also worked as Executive Director for Central América and Belize at the Inter-American Development Bank and Counselor Minister of Economic and Energy Affairs of the President Juan Orlando Hernández
The 2017–18 Honduran Liga Nacional season was the 52nd Honduran Liga Nacional edition since its establishment in 1965. For this season, the system format remained the same as the previous season. The tournament started on 28 July 2017 and ended on 19 May 2018. The season was divided into two halves, each crowning one champion. C.D. Marathón, as the team with the best record, qualified to the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League. Real C.D. España and F.C. Motagua qualified to the 2018 CONCACAF League.
Hilda Rosario Hernández Alvarado was an agronomy engineer and Honduran politician. She held posts in the nationalist governments of Ricardo Maduro, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, and of her brother, Juan Orlando Hernández, who served as Honduran president between 2014 and 2022. From January 2017 until her questionable death, she was a political advisor to her brother in his campaign for re-election in the Honduran general election of 2017.
The 2019–20 Honduran Liga Nacional season was the 54th Honduran Liga Nacional edition since its establishment in 1965. The tournament started in July 2019 and ended in March 2020. The season was divided into two halves, each crowning one champion. A new format will be used starting this season, each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents', for 18 games. The first five teams will advance to the post-season (Pentagonal), where they will play each other once. If the same team wins both phases, they will be crowned champions automatically; otherwise, a final series will be scheduled between the winners of both phases. This format was last used in 1992–93. At the end of the season, the three teams with the best record will qualify to the 2020 CONCACAF League.
Comayagua International Airport, also known as Palmerola International Airport, is an international airport located 6 km (4 mi) south of the centre of Comayagua, Honduras. The airport was inaugurated in October 2021 as the country's new international airport for civil and commercial use. It was built at the facilities of the Soto Cano Air Base.
