The 22nd Annual Echo Awards were held on March 21, 2013, at the Palais am Berliner Funkturm in Berlin. The show was broadcast on Das Erste and was hosted for the first time by Schlager entertainer Helene Fischer. Nominations for all 27 award categories were announced on January 31, 2013. [1]

Die Toten Hosen won the most number of awards during the ceremony, with four, including the Echo for Song of the Year for "Tage wie diese" and Album of the Year for Ballast der Republik . [2] In addition, the band was awarded Best National Rock/Pop Group and Producers of the Year along with Vincent Sorg. [2] Other multiple winners include: Cro, Unheilig, Lana Del Rey and host Helene Fischer with two awards each. [2]

The Rudolf Weber-Arena is a multi-purpose arena, located in Oberhausen, Germany. Opening in 1996, the arena is a part of leisure and shopping center, CentrO. The venue was built in Neue Mitte Oberhausen, a former industrial plant. In November 2001, König Brauerei, a brewery in Duisburg purchased naming rights to the arena. Ballast der Republik is a 2012 album by the German punk band Die Toten Hosen. It was their first studio album since 2008's In aller Stille. To commemorate the 30-year-jubilee of the band, the album was also released as a special edition with a second CD, titled Die Geister, die wir riefen, containing 15 cover versions of songs and literature by artists that influenced and inspired the members of the band.

It features recordings from two unplugged concerts on July 13 and July 14, 2019, which were titled "Mit Pauken und Trompeten" and were given at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. The album was released on October 25, 2019 by the label JKP. The songs 1000 gute Gründe, Ohne dich und Feiern im Regen had been released as downloads before as a teaser. On November 22, 2019 a video movie with 10 additional titles was released also.
