An aviation accident is defined by the Convention on International Civil Aviation Annex 13 as an occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft, which takes place from the time any person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight until all such persons have disembarked, and in which (a) a person is fatally or seriously injured, (b) the aircraft sustains significant damage or structural failure, or (c) the aircraft goes missing or becomes completely inaccessible. Annex 13 defines an aviation incident as an occurrence, other than an accident, associated with the operation of an aircraft that affects or could affect the safety of operation.
The Genting Sempah–Genting Highlands Highway is the main highway from Genting Sempah to Genting Highlands, Malaysia, a mountain resort and entertainment park. This is a private highway owned by Genting Berhad. The speed limit of the highway is 50 km/h (31 mph).
The 2007 Bukit Gantang bus crash was the worst road accident in Malaysian history before the 2010 Cameron Highlands bus crash and 2013 Genting Highlands bus crash which claimed 27 and 37 lives respectively. Twenty passengers of the Super Express bus were killed in the accident which took place near Bukit Berapit, Bukit Gantang, Changkat Jering, Perak. It occurred on 13 August 2007 at 4.40 am, when the bus driver, Rohizan Abu Bakar, lost control of the bus as it was going down an incline and it crashed into a ditch at the 229th kilometre of the North–South Expressway.
The Yanga derailment occurred on 21 June 2010 when a train traveling between Brazzaville and Pointe Noire in the Republic of the Congo was derailed and plunged into a ravine. At least 60 people were initially reported to have been killed and hundreds disappeared with the death toll expected to rise further. The death toll had risen to 76 people and the injury toll had risen to 745 by 23 June 2010.
The 2010 Cameron Highlands bus crash was, until 2013, the worst road accident in Malaysian history. Twenty-seven passengers of the double-decked coach bus, mostly Thai tourists, were killed in the accident which took place near Cameron Highlands of the Perak-Pahang border. It occurred on 20 December 2010 at approximately 11:40 am, when the bus driver, Omar Shahidan, lost control of the bus as it was going down an incline and it crashed into a rocky slope at 150 kilometres an hour, off the Second East-West Highway.
The Kallar Kahar school bus accident was a school bus road accident that occurred on 27 September 2011 near the town of Kallar Kahar in the Chakwal District of Punjab, Pakistan. 37 people, mostly school students, were killed in the disaster.
The Sierre coach crash occurred on 13 March 2012 near Sierre, Switzerland, when a coach carrying school teachers and pupils crashed into a wall in the Sierre Tunnel. Of the 52 people on board, 28 were killed in the crash, including both drivers, all four teachers, and 22 of the 46 children. The other 24 pupils, all aged between 10 and 12, were injured, including three who were hospitalised with severe brain and chest injuries.
On June 23, 2013, 19 people, all Romanians, were killed and another 28 wounded in a bus crash near Podgorica in Montenegro. The bus, with registration plate number B 123 MMJ, skidded off the road, crashing into a ravine about 40 m below. A local child who was on the road at the time of the accident was also injured, but not seriously. The accident reportedly occurred around 5 to 6 pm 30 km north of Podgorica, the capital and largest city of Montenegro. There were about 50 people on board, all of them Romanian citizens.
Forty people were killed and another eight were injured in a bus crash near the town of Monteforte Irpino in Italy on July 28, 2013.
The 2013 San Martin Jilotepeque bus disaster occurred in San Martin Jilotepeque, Guatemala on Monday September 9, 2013, at 7:50 local time. A passenger bus from Transportes Sanmartineca carrying more than 80 passengers crashed into a 200-meter ravine after missing a sharp bend in the road connecting San Martin Jilotepeque to Chimaltenango. 48 people died and another 37 were wounded in the accident.
The Ottawa bus–train crash was a collision that occurred between an OC Transpo double-decker bus and a Via Rail train in the Ottawa suburb of Barrhaven on September 18, 2013, that killed six people.
The Tiefencastel derailment occurred near the municipality of Tiefencastel, Switzerland, on 13 August 2014 when a passenger train travelling on the Albula Railway was struck by a landslide and derailed. Ten people were injured, four seriously, and 1 person died.
The 2015 Brazil bus accident occurred on 15 March 2015, when a tourist bus veered off a road and plunged approximately 100 metres (330 ft) into a ravine near the city of Joinville in Santa Catarina state in Brazil. At least 51 people died and 7 were injured in the accident.
A passenger bus fell into a ravine, nearly 100-foot (30 m) high, in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, the Philippines, killing 36 people and injuring about 40 others, after it lost its brakes near Dalton Pass on April 18, 2017. The accident surpassed the number of deaths in the bus crash in Tanay, Rizal this year which happened in February and killed 15.
