The qualification event of the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held from November 3 to 8, 2012 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland, which hosted the qualification tournaments for the past two World Wheelchair Curling Championships. The qualification event was open to any World Curling Federation affiliated national team not already qualified. The event's two top finishers, Norway and Finland, will join the top 8 finishers from the last World Wheelchair Curling Championship at this season's event in Sochi, Russia. [1]

Of the 11 teams that competed, Italy and Norway last competed at the Worlds in 2012, Germany and the Czech Republic in 2011, Switzerland in 2009, Japan in 2008, Denmark in 2007, and Poland in 2005. Finland, Latvia and Turkey never appeared at a World Wheelchair Curling Championship prior to this season, and Turkey made its debut on the world wheelchair curling stage at the qualification event.

After the round robin, Finland, Norway, Italy, and Latvia advanced to the playoffs, where Finland played Norway for a spot in the World Championships and Italy played Latvia for a spot in the second qualifier. [2] Norway, skipped by Rune Lorentsen, defeated Finland, skipped by Vesa Hellman, with a score of 8–3 to grab the first of two open spots in the World Championships. Finland was relegated to the second qualifier, while Italy, skipped by Paolo Ioriatti, defeated Latvia, skipped by Ojārs Briedis, with a score of 7–4 to advance to the second qualifier. In the Second Place Game, Finland defeated Italy with a score of 9–7 to claim the second spot in the World Championships. [1]

The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. The 2015 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held from February 6 to 13 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland.

The qualification event of the 2015 World Wheelchair Curling Championship was held from November 1 to 6, 2014 at the Lillehammer Curling Club in Lillehammer, Norway. The qualification event was open to any World Curling Federation member nation not already qualified for the World Championship. Stefania Constantini is an Italian curler from Cortina d'Ampezzo. She currently skips the Italian National Women's Curling Team. She has played in two World Championships, three European Championships and the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics. She won a bronze medal at the 2017 European Curling Championships and a gold medal in mixed doubles at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

The 2020 World Junior Curling Championships was held from February 15 to 22 at the Crystal Ice Arena in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Öznur Polat is a Turkish curler and curling coach. She currently plays third on the Turkish National Women's Curling Team skipped by Dilşat Yıldız.

Marta Lo Deserto Italian curler

Marta Lo Deserto is an Italian curler from Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. She currently plays third on the Italian National Women's Curling Team skipped by Stefania Constantini.

2021 European Curling Championships

The 2021 European Curling Championships were held in September and November 2021, to qualify European curling teams for the 2022 World Curling Championships and World Qualification Event. The A and B division competitions were held from November 20 to 27 in Lillehammer, Norway. The C division competition was held from September 12 to 17 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Olympic qualification event is an international curling tournament that was held from 5–18 December 2021 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

The 2022 World Qualification Event for the World Curling Championships was held from January 18 to 22 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland. The competition originally consisted of sixteen teams divided evenly into men's and women's divisions. The Brazilian Men's Team and the Kazakh Women's Team were removed from the competition schedule days before the tournament due to travel complications, leaving the competition with fourteen teams divided evenly into each division. The top two teams in the men's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Men's Championship and similarly the top two teams in the women's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Women's Championship.

Mihriban Polat is a Turkish curler from Erzurum, Turkey. She is currently the alternate on the Turkish National Women's Curling Team skipped by Dilşat Yıldız.

The 2022 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held from April 30 to May 5 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland. It was the first time the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was ever held.
