Ross Montgomery, nicknamed The Boss, is a Scottish professional darts player who played in World Darts Federation (WDF) tournaments and as of January 14th 2022 now plays on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Montgomery also played American football in his native Scotland, having spent eleven years with Glasgow Diamonds. He was forced to retire through injury and took up the game of darts instead.

Darryl Fitton was his opponent in the final, and missed two match darts for a 5–3 victory and his second Zuiderduin Masters win. Waites missed the double 18 for a nine-dart finish on his way to completing the comeback. It was a very high scoring match, with Waites hitting 16 180s and Fitton hitting 15.

It was the first edition of the tournament since the sponsorship of the event was taken over by the Hotel Zuiderduin to become the Zuiderduin Masters. A new tournament format was also introduced. It was also the last year the tournament was held as an unranked event and a men's only competition.
