The 2014 Salina Bombers season was the team's second season as a professional indoor football franchise and second as a member of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. One of nine teams in the CPIFL for the league's final season, the Salina Bombers were owned by Chris Vercher. The Bombers played their home games at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas, under the direction of three head coaches in 2014. Coach Bob Frey began the year before stepping down and was succeeded by Eric Clayton. Clayton resigned and was replaced by Bob Ray. [1]

Season summary

In 2014, the Bombers finished the regular season with a record of 8-4, good enough for 3rd place in the final CPIFL standings. They were defeated 66-37 by the Sioux City Bandits at the Tyson Events Center in the first round of the post-season. Standout players this season included defensive linebacker Meshak Williams who claimed both Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors from the CPIFL.

Off-field moves

After the 2014 season ended, the Champions Professional Indoor Football League announced it was merging with teams from other leagues to form a new league, Champions Indoor Football. [2] [3]

The Omaha Beef is an indoor football team and a charter member of the Champions Indoor Football (CIF) league. Based in Omaha, Nebraska, the Beef play their home games at Ralston Arena in nearby Ralston.

The Bloomington Edge was a professional indoor football team based in Bloomington, Illinois. While it was in operation, the team hosted home games at Grossinger Motors Arena. Originally named the Bloomington Extreme, the team was a member of United Indoor Football (UIF), and joined the Indoor Football League (IFL) in 2009 during the UIF and Intense Football League merger. The Kansas Koyotes were a professional indoor football and were a charter member of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. Based in Topeka, Kansas, the Koyotes played their home games at Landon Arena.

The Lincoln Haymakers were a professional indoor football team based in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Haymakers played their 2013–2014 home games at the Pershing Center.

The Wichita Wild were a professional indoor football team based in Wichita, Kansas. They were members of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL). The team was founded in 2006 as an independent indoor football franchise. In 2008, the team joined United Indoor Football (UIF). They joined the Indoor Football League (IFL) during the UIF and Intense Football League merger of 2009. In 2012, the team left the IFL to become charter members of the CPIFL. The Lone Star Football League (LSFL) was a regional professional indoor football league that played three seasons from 2012 to 2014. All of the LSFL's charter teams were based in the state of Texas, with five teams coming from the Southern Indoor Football League, three from the Indoor Football League, plus one expansion team. The LSFL played three seasons to completion before merging with the Champions Professional Indoor Football League in August 2014 to form Champions Indoor Football.

The Salina Bombers were a professional indoor football team based in Salina, Kansas. The team was founded by Chris Vercher, Jake Leighty and Jake Sharp in 2012 as charter member of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL). The Bombers played their home games at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. After the Bombers folded, the Salina Liberty were started as a new indoor football franchise. Bernardis “Snap” Hughes was the first player signed with the new franchise, Hughes was the highest paid player in the League at the time of signing. The Salina Liberty are a professional indoor football team based in Salina, Kansas. They began play in 2016 as members of the Champions Indoor Football (CIF). The team plays their home games at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center.
