Geox-TMC was a Spanish-based road bicycle racing team, registered for 2011 as a UCI Professional Continental team. Established as Saunier Duval–Prodir in 2004, the team has had success in one-day races such as Clásica de San Sebastián.
Industriales is a professional baseball team in the Cuban National Series. Located in Cerro, La Habana, it is known as the only team representing the country’s capital, Havana. Industriales is historically the most successful team in the National Series, although they have played under other names throughout their history. The Super Classic of Cuban National Series takes place six times per season between Industriales and Santiago de Cuba, the Cuban equivalent of the New York Yankees–Boston Red Sox rivalry. The matchup also represents the rivalry between the two cities, dating back to the era when Cuba was a colony of Spain more than two centuries ago. They are known as the Lions, "The Blues" or "The Blue Lions". Royal blue is their color, though teams like Camagüey and Ciego de Ávila also have blue uniforms
Leonardo Fabio Duque is a French-Colombian professional road racing cyclist, who last rode for the Delko team. After stage 19 of the 2009 Tour de France, Duque was named the most combative rider of the stage after aggressively pacing a breakaway. In 2011 he became the first Colombian-born cyclist to finish the cobbled One Day Cycling Monuments, the Tour of Flanders and Paris–Roubaix. He also competed in the men's Madison at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Sports in Colombia includes professional sports leagues, as well as amateur leagues for numerous sports. Football, cycling, and roller skating are the most popular sports in Colombia. The Government of Colombia sponsors numerous individuals and teams nationally and internationally through the Ministry of Culture to enable sportspeople to represent Colombia in competition. The achievements of professional sportspeople are a source of national pride for Colombians.

Team Manzana Postobón was a UCI Professional Continental cycling team based in Colombia. The team was founded in 2006, becoming a Continental team in 2007. In 2015, the team competed as a club, before returning to Continental status the following year. From 2017 until its disbanding in 2019 the team held Professional Continental status.

Carlos Julián Quintero Noreña is a Colombian racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team Terengganu Cycling Team. Quintero has also competed for the Colombia es Pasión–Café de Colombia/Team Manzana Postobón, Colombia, China Continental Team of Gansu Bank, Orgullo Paisa and Ningxia Sports Lottery Livall Gusto professional teams; he contested the 2013 Giro d'Italia, the 2014 Giro d'Italia and the 2015 Vuelta a España with Colombia.

The race was used by many European-based riders as the beginning of their 2016 road seasons. It was rated as a 2.1 event as part of the 2016 UCI America Tour. The defending champion is the Argentine cyclist Daniel Díaz.
