The Freedom and Direct Democracy leadership election of 2015 was held on 4 August 2015. Tomio Okamura was elected the first leader of the party. [1]

Background

Tomio Okamura was the leader of Dawn of Direct Democracy but had to leave the party in early 2015 due to conflicts. Okamura then decided to form new party called Freedom and Direct Democracy. Leadership election was scheduled for August 2015. [2]

Voting

Voting took place on 4 August 2015. Okamura was the only candidate. He was reportedly elected the new leader but no reports of vote count were made public. [3] [4]

Since October 2013, he has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic (MP), initially for Dawn of Direct Democracy and then from May 2015 for SPD, of which he is also leader. Parliamentary elections were held in the Czech Republic on 20 and 21 October 2017. A Civic Democratic Party (ODS) leadership election was held on 13 January 2018. The incumbent leader Petr Fiala sought reelection. Shadow Minister of Education Václav Klaus Jr. was widely expected to run against Fiala. He was considered to be one of the most visible politician of the party. In December 2016, Czech bookmaker company Fortuna wrote a course for Klaus Jr. to replace Fiala on 20:1. Klaus Jr.. decided to not run against Fiala. Approximately 540 delegates were allowed to vote. Fiala received 451 votes and was elected for another term.

Euroscepticism, i.e. the opposition to policies of supranational European Union institutions and/or opposition to membership of the European Union, is a significant element in the politics of the Czech Republic, with several parties and political figures favouring leaving the union. According to a survey by CVVM in April 2016, 25% of Czechs were satisfied with European Union membership.

A leadership election for the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) was held in 2018 following the 2017 legislative election. Jan Hamáček was elected the new leader of the party, defeating Jiří Zimola in the second round.

Election of the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic will be held on 20 November 2017.

The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) held a leadership election on 21 April 2018. Snap election was held as a result of party's losses in 2017 legislative election. Josef Skála was first major candidate to announce his candidacy. The incumbent leader Vojtěch Filip decided to run for another term. MEP Kateřina Konečná became third major candidate. Filip and Skála eventually advanced to second round.

Democratic Bloc was a parliamentary alliance formed in 2017 by four Centre-right parties. Parties agreed to cooperate in parliament. Czech Pirate Party and Czech Social Democratic Party were also offered participation but both parties declined. It was announced on 15 November 2017 on a Press Conference by Petr Fiala. Fiala stated that Democratic Bloc isn't meant to be a long term coalition but its only task is to take over initiative during negotiations of parliament's body and for constituent meeting. Democratic Bloc was dissolved on 21 December 2017.

The Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) leadership election of 2018 was held on 14 July 2018. Tomio Okamura was elected for second term.

The Czech political crisis in 2018 started when Seznam News published an interview with Andrej Babiš Jr., son of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. Babiš Jr. stated, that his father's people kidnapped him in Crimea and kept him there.

A leadership election for Oath was held on 26 June 2021. Robert Šlachta became first leader of the party.
