The Southern Conference (SoCon) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Southern Conference football teams compete in the Football Championship Subdivision. Member institutions are located in the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Hampton is an independent city in Virginia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 137,148. It is the 7th-most populous city in Virginia and 204th-most populous city in the nation. Hampton is included in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, the 37th-largest in the United States, with a total population of 1,799,674 in 2020. This area, known as "America's First Region", also includes the independent cities of Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk, as well as other smaller cities, counties, and towns of Hampton Roads.
Frederick Douglass "Fritz" Pollard was an American football player and coach. In 1921, he became the first African-American head coach in the National Football League (NFL). Pollard and Bobby Marshall were the first two African-American players in the NFL in 1920. Football pioneer Walter Camp called Pollard "one of the greatest runners these eyes have ever seen."

Michael William Hampton, Jr. is an American former professional baseball player. Hampton played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a pitcher from 1993 through 2010. He pitched for the Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks. He was the bullpen coach for the Mariners before resigning on July 9, 2017.

Hampton & Richmond Borough Football Club is an English semi-professional football club based in the suburb of Hampton, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. They were founded in 1921 and formerly known as Hampton FC until 1999 when they changed their name in an attempt to draw a wider support base from around the borough. As of the 2021–22 season, they compete in the National League South, at the sixth tier of English football.

He was originally recruited by incoming AFL club Greater Western Sydney with one of their Northern Territory zone selections in 2010. He was traded to Adelaide at the end of 2015, after 51 matches in four AFL seasons for Greater Western Sydney. Hampton is originally from Alice Springs, and is the son of former politician Karl Hampton.
The 1906 The Citadel Bulldogs football team represented The Citadel as an independent during the 1906 college football season. This was the second year of intercollegiate football at The Citadel, with Ralph Foster serving as coach. The Board of Visitors would not permit the cadets to travel outside the city of Charleston for games, and all games are believed to have been played at Hampton Park at the site of the old race course. The 1906 season saw several milestones. This was the only Citadel team to finish undefeated and to shut out all of its opponents. This was also the season in which blue and white were adopted as school colors for athletic competition.
