The 2016 Horizon League women's basketball tournament was a postseason tournament from March 10 through March 13. For the first time every game will be available on an ESPN Network. Rounds 1 & 2 will be on ESPN3, with the semifinals on TWCS and simulcast on ESPN3. The championship will be on ESPNU. As a D2 to D1 transitioning school, Northern Kentucky were ineligible to compete in the NCAA tournament until the 2018 season, so they can not win the conference tournament since the winner received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. However Northern Kentucky is eligible to win the regular season title and is eligible to compete in the WNIT or WBI should they be invited. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA women's tournament.

The 2015–16 Valparaiso Crusaders men's basketball team represented Valparaiso University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Crusaders, led by fifth year head coach Bryce Drew, played their home games at the Athletics–Recreation Center and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 30–7, 16–2 in Horizon League play to win the regular season championship. They lost in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament to Green Bay. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament. As one of the last four teams left out of the NCAA tournament, they received a #1 seed in the NIT where they defeated Texas Southern, Florida State, Saint Mary's, and BYU to advance to the championship game where they lost to George Washington.

The 2016 WAC women's basketball tournament was a tournament which was held on March 9–12, 2016, at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The #1 seed in the tournament will receive a first round bye to the semifinals. Grand Canyon did not compete in the 2016 women's basketball tournament. As a D2 to D1 transitioning school, they are ineligible to compete in the NCAA tournament until the 2018 season, so they can not win the conference tournament since the winner received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. However Grand Canyon is eligible to win the regular season title and is eligible to compete in the WNIT or WBI should they be invited. The 2016 Mid-American Conference women's basketball tournament is a post-season basketball tournament for the Mid-American Conference (MAC) 2015–16 college basketball season. Tournament first-round games will be held on campus sites at the higher seed on March 7. The remaining rounds will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland between March 9–12. They finished the season 24–11, 13–6 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for third place. It was held on February 27, March 1, 4, and 7, 2018 with the higher seed in each matchup hosting at their respective campus sites.

The 2021–22 Wright State Raiders men's basketball team represented Wright State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Raiders, led by sixth-year head coach Scott Nagy, played their home games at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 22–14, 15–7 in Horizon League Play to finish in fourth place. As the No. 4 seed, they defeated Oakland, Cleveland State, and Northern Kentucky to win the Horizon League tournament. They received the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 16 seed in the South Region, where they defeated Bryant in the First Four before losing in the first round to Arizona.

The 2022 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Southern Conference (SoCon) for the 2021–22 season. All tournament games were played at the Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina, during March 4–7, 2022. The winner of the tournament received the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.

The 2022–23 Horizon League men's basketball season began with practices in September 2022 and ended with the 2023 Horizon League men's basketball tournament in March 2023. This wase the 43rd season for Horizon League men's basketball. This was the first season in conference history with 11 teams, as UIC departed for the Missouri Valley Conference following the 2021-22 season.
