Alexandra Dulgheru was the defending champion, but lost to Lara Arruabarrena Vecino in the second round. Arruabarrena Vecino went on to win the title, defeating Catalina Castaño in the final, 6–3, 6–2.

Garbiñe Muguruza was the defending champion heading into the tournament but chose to compete at the Sydney tennis event instead of Hobart. In the final, it was unseeded Brit Heather Watson who defeated the American qualifier in Madison Brengle, 6–3, 6–4 to record her second WTA title.
Michaëlla Krajicek and Karolína Plíšková were the defending champions, but chose not to participate this year.
Chan Hao-ching and Anabel Medina Garrigues won the title, defeating Lara Arruabarrena and Raluca Olaru in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–5).

Arruabarrena played alongside Paula Cristina Gonçalves, but lost in the quarterfinals to María Irigoyen and Paula Kania. Serena Williams defeated Madison Keys in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 Italian Open. This was Williams's second title in Rome won without dropping a set, and her fourth Italian Open title overall.
Agnieszka Radwańska defeated Johanna Konta in the final, 6–4, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 China Open.

Elina Svitolina defeated Simona Halep in the final, 4–6, 7–5, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Italian Open.

Elina Svitolina defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final, 6–4, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Canadian Open. It was her third consecutive Premier 5 title, making her the first woman to win the first three Premier 5 tournaments in a season, as well as the first to win three consecutive Premier 5 tournaments since Wozniacki won Montreal and Tokyo in 2010 and Dubai in 2011. This was also Wozniacki's sixth consecutive loss in a final in 2017, making her the first to lose that many finals in a row in one season, as well as the first woman to lose six finals in a single season since Maria Sharapova in 2012.
Caroline Garcia defeated Ashleigh Barty in the final, 6–7(3–7), 7–6(7–4), 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2017 Wuhan Open.
Caroline Garcia defeated Simona Halep in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–3) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 China Open. As of 2019, Garcia is the only player to win singles titles in both Wuhan and Beijing in the same year.
Naomi Osaka defeated Daria Kasatkina in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2018 Indian Wells Masters. It was her first WTA Tour title. This was the first time two players under 21 had contested the final since Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams in 2001. At 20 years old, Osaka was the youngest Indian Wells champion since Ana Ivanovic in 2008, and the youngest at any Premier Mandatory event since Caroline Wozniacki at the 2010 China Open. She was also only the third unseeded player to win the tournament after Serena Williams (1999) and Clijsters (2005), and the first Japanese player to win a Premier Mandatory title.

Petra Kvitová was the defending champion, but lost to Donna Vekić in the quarterfinals.
Ashleigh Barty defeated Karolína Plíšková in the final, 7–6(7–1), 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 Miami Open. It was Barty's first WTA Premier Mandatory title. She entered the top 10 in the WTA rankings for the first time with the win.
