The music of Iceland includes vibrant folk and pop traditions, as well as an active classical and contemporary music scene. Well-known artists from Iceland include medieval music group Voces Thules, alternative rock band The Sugarcubes, singers Björk, Hafdís Huld and Emiliana Torrini, post-rock band Sigur Rós, post-metal band Sólstafir, indie folk/indie pop band Of Monsters and Men and metal band Skálmöld. Iceland's traditional music is related to Nordic music forms. Although Iceland has a very small population, it is home to many famous and praised bands and musicians.
Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) is Iceland's national public-service broadcasting organization.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was the 61st edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Stockholm, Sweden, following Måns Zelmerlöw's win at the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria with the song "Heroes". This was the third time the contest had taken place in Stockholm, after 1975 and 2000. The contest was held at the Ericsson Globe and consisted of two semi-finals on 10 and 12 May and the final on 14 May 2016, with all three live shows hosted by Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede.
Rás 2 is an Icelandic radio station belonging to the National Icelandic Broadcasting Service, RÚV. Launched on 1 December 1983, it is currently the highest-rated radio station in Iceland, with a schedule composed chiefly of news, current affairs, and pop and rock music. Rás 2 is broadcast throughout the country from a network of 90 FM transmitters, via Satellite and also streamed on the Internet.
Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxa Bay. Its latitude is 64°08' N, making it the world's northernmost capital of a sovereign state. With a population of around 123,300, it is the heart of Iceland's cultural, economic and governmental activity, and is a popular tourist destination.
"Hear Them Calling" is a song performed by Icelandic singer Greta Salóme. The song represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 held in Stockholm, Sweden. It was originally performed in its Icelandic version "Raddirnar". Salóme represented Iceland performing in the first semi-final held on 10 May 2016, but failed to qualify to the 14 May final.
A five days music event is held annually at the Folk Music Center in Siglufjordur North Iceland. The festival commences on the first Wednesday of July every year.
The main focus is on Icelandic folk music and Scandinavian folk music as well as world music and folk dances. 15-20 concerts are held in different locations of the town, f.e. the church, lokals and the Herring Era Museum. During the festival, workshops on music and old handcraft, and lectures on both Icelandic and foreign topics are held.

Jón Jósep Snæbjörnsson or Jónsi is an Icelandic singer and member of the band Í Svörtum Fötum. He represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 and finished 19th. He has also competed at Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007, which is a television show to pick Iceland's song for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Segðu Mér. Jónsi once again represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan in a duet with singer Greta Salóme, qualifying for the Eurovision final and finishing in 20th place. Snæbjörnsson also performed the opening theme song to the Icelandic children's television show LazyTown.

Iceland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden, and have selected their entry through a national selection, consisting of two semi-finals and a final, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV. Eythor Ingi represented Iceland with the song "Ég á Líf", which scored 47 points and finished in 17th place in the grand final on 18 May 2013.

The Icelandic entry was selected through the national final Söngvakeppnin 2014, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). Iceland was represented by the song "No Prejudice", performed by Pollapönk and written by Heiðar Örn Kristjánsson, Haraldur F. Gíslason and John Grant. The entry qualified from the first semi-final to compete in the final. Iceland placed 15th in the final, scoring 58 points.

The Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) organised the national final Söngvakeppnin 2015 in order to select the Icelandic entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. After 12 songs competed through two semi-finals and a final, "Unbroken" performed by María Ólafs emerged as the winner, ultimately being selected through a public televote. In the second of the Eurovision semi-finals, Iceland failed to qualify to the final, placing fifteenth out of the 17 participating countries with 14 points. This was the first time since 2007 that Iceland had missed qualifying for the final.

The selection consisted of two semi-finals and a final, held on 25 February, 4 March and 11 March 2017 respectively. Six songs competed in each semi-final with the top three as selected by a public televote advancing to the final. In the final, the winner was selected over two rounds of voting: the first involved a 50/50 combination of regional jury voting and public televoting, which reduced the six competing entries to two superfinalists and the second round selected the winner exclusively through public televoting. "Paper" performed by Svala emerged as the winner after gaining 62.51% of the public vote.
