The 2017 Big East men's basketball tournament was the postseason tournament men's basketball tournament for the Big East Conference. It was held from March 8 through March 11, 2017 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The championship was won by Villanova who defeated Creighton in the championship game. The tournament win was Villanova's third all-time tournament championship and second in the prior three years. [1] As a result, Villanova received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Seeds

All 10 Big East schools participated in the tournament. Teams were seeded by the conference record with tie-breaking procedures to determine the seeds for teams with identical conference records. [2] The top six teams received first-round byes. Seeding for the tournament was determined at the close of the regular conference season.

Jerold Taylor "Jay" Wright Jr. is a former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of Villanova University from 2001 until 2022. The Wildcats finished the season 36–4, 14–4 in Big East play to finish in second place. They defeated Marquette, Butler, and Providence to win the Big East tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed in the East region, their third No.1 seed in four years. They defeated Radford, Alabama, West Virginia, and Texas Tech to advance to the Final Four for the second time in three years. They won every game of the tournament by a double-digit margin and the team's tournament run is widely considered the most dominant ever along with being called among the best seasons of all time.

The 2017–18 Providence Friars men's basketball team represented Providence College in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Friars, led by seventh-year head coach Ed Cooley, played their home games at the Dunkin' Donuts Center as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 21–14, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a three-way tie for third place. As the No. 5 seed in the Big East Tournament, they defeated Creighton and No. 1-seeded Xavier in back-to-back overtime games to advance to the championship game. In a third straight overtime game, the Friars fell to Villanova in the championship game. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 10 seed in the West region where they lost to Texas A&M in the First Round.

The 2018 Big East men's basketball tournament was the postseason tournament men's basketball tournament for the Big East Conference. It was held from March 7 through March 10, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. No. 2 seed Villanova defeated No. 5 seed Providence in the championship game to win the tournament and receive the conference's bid to the NCAA tournament. It was Villanova's second straight tournament championship.

The 2019 Big East men's basketball tournament was the men's basketball postseason tournament for the Big East Conference. It was held from March 13 through March 16, 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Villanova defeated Seton Hall 74–72 to win the tournament, and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. With the win, Villanova became the first team to win the Big East tournament three consecutive times.

The Bluejays were coached by 12th-year head coach Greg McDermott and played their home games at the CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 23–12, 12–7 in Big East play to finish in fourth place. As the No. 4 seed in the Big East Tournament, they defeated Marquette and Providence, before losing to Villanova in the Championship. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 9 seed in the Midwest Region, where they defeated San Diego State in the First Round before losing to Kansas in the Second Round.

Led by head coach Jay Wright in his 21st and final year of coaching, the Wildcats played their home games at the Finneran Pavilion on the school's campus in the Philadelphia suburb of Villanova, Pennsylvania and Wells Fargo Center as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 30–8, 16–4 in Big East play to finish in second place. They defeated St. John's, UConn, and Creighton to win the Big East Tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the South region. They defeated Delaware, Ohio State, Michigan, and Houston to advance to the Final Four. There they lost to eventual national champion Kansas.

The 1985–86 Villanova Wildcats men's basketball team represented Villanova University in the 1985–86 season. The head coach was Rollie Massimino. The team played its home games at The Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania, and was a member of the Big East Conference.
