The 2017 Campeonato Paraibano de Futebol was the 107th edition of Paraíba's top professional football league. The competition began on 8 January and ended on 7 May. Botafogo-PB were champions, after defeating Treze in the final.

The Campeonato Paraibano is the football league of the state of Paraíba, Brazil.

Paraíba State of Brazil

Paraíba is a state of Brazil. It is located in the Brazilian Northeast, and it is bordered by Rio Grande do Norte to the north, Ceará to the west, Pernambuco to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Paraíba is the third most densely populated state of the Northeast; João Pessoa, the sea-bordered state capital, and Campina Grande, in the interior, rank among the fifteen-largest municipalities in the Northeast of Brazil.

Botafogo Futebol Clube, usually known as Botafogo, or as Botafogo da Paraíba, is a Brazilian football club from João Pessoa, Paraíba state. The club won the Série D once.

Format

The competition is divided into two stages.

In the first stage, the ten teams will play each other home and away, for a total of eighteen games.

In the final stage, the top four teams from the first stage will play a semi-final over two legs. The first ranked team will play the fourth ranked team and the second ranked team will play the third ranked team. The higher ranked team will play at home in the second leg in both cases. The winners of these ties will play the final over two legs. [2]

The two finalists qualified to participate in the 2018 Copa do Brasil and 2018 Copa do Nordeste. The two best placed teams (other than Botafogo-PB) qualified to participate in the 2018 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D. [3]

2018 Copa do Brasil

The 2018 Copa do Brasil was the 30th edition of the Copa do Brasil football competition. It was held between 30 January and 17 October 2018. The competition was contested by 91 teams, either qualified through participitating their respective state championships (70), by the 2018 CBF ranking (10), by the 2017 Copa do Nordeste (1), by the 2017 Copa Verde (1), by the 2017 Série B (1) or those qualified for 2018 Copa Libertadores (8).

The 2018 Copa do Nordeste was the 15th edition of the main football tournament featuring teams from the Brazilian Northeast Region. The competition featured 20 clubs, with Bahia and Pernambuco having three seeds each, and Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Alagoas, Paraíba, Maranhão and Piauí with two seeds each.

The 2018 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D was a football competition held in Brazil, equivalent to the fourth division. The competition started on 21 April and ended on 4 August 2018.
