The 2017 Campeonato Pernambucano (officially the Pernambucano A1 2017) was the 103rd edition of the state championship of Pernambuco. The championship began on January 4 and ended on June 28. Twelve teams were competing, ten returning from the 2016 and two promoted from the 2016 Pernambucano A2 Championship (Flamengo de Arcoverde and Afogados).
Santa Cruz were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Salgueiro in the semi-finals.
Sport defeated Salgueiro 2–1 on aggregate to win their 41st Campeonato Pernambucano title. [1]

Tiebreakers

The teams were ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss). If two or more teams were equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria would be applied to determine the rankings:

  1. Higher number of wins;
  2. Superior goal difference;
  3. Higher number of goals scored;
  4. Head-to-head result between tied teams;
  5. Fewest red cards received;
  6. Fewest yellow cards received;
  7. Draw in the headquarters of the Federação Pernambucana de Futebol. [13]

Play-offs

In the Play-offs stages, each tie was played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. If tied on aggregate, away goals rule would not be used, extra time would not be played and penalty shoot-out would determine the winner. In the Third place matches and the Final, the second leg was hosted by the teams with a higher overall points.

Federação Pernambucana de Futebol

The Federação Pernambucana de Futebol, once named Liga Esportiva Pernambucana, also known by the acronym FPF, organizes and administrates the Campeonato Pernambucano, the Copa Pernambuco and the Pernambucan Football Championship lower levels). It was founded in 1915. Carlos Alberto Oliveira was the president of FPF until his death on August 29, 2011 being replaced by Evandro Carvalho.

The Campeonato Pernambucano lower levels are the football tournaments for the Pernambucano state clubs that don't play in the Campeonato Pernambucano First Division. The competitions are organized by the Pernambucan Football Federation. Usually, the champions of a division are promoted in the next year to the immediately upper level.

The 2013 Campeonato Pernambucano, named Pernambucano Coca-Cola 2013 - Série A1 for sponsorship reasons, was the 99th edition of the state championship of Pernambuco. With the return of Copa do Nordeste in 2013 and the participation of three teams from the state, the formula of this edition was not the same as the previous championship. The competition is started on January 20 and concluded on May 19. Santa Cruz won their 27th championship, with Sport as runner-up. Petrolina and Belo Jardim were relegated to the second division of Campeonato Pernambucano.

Luis Eduardo Barros Cavalcanti, known as Dado Cavalcanti, is a Brazilian football manager and former player who played as a left back. He is the current manager of Vitória.

The 2016 Copa do Nordeste was the 14th edition of the main football tournament featuring teams from the Brazilian Northeast Region. The competition featured 20 clubs, with Bahia and Pernambuco having three seeds each, and Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Alagoas, Paraíba, Maranhão and Piauí with two seeds each. Santa Cruz (Pernambuco) qualified to play in the 2016 Copa Sudamericana, after winning the final against Campinense (Paraíba) 3–2 on aggregate.
Santa Cruz also qualified to play in the 2017 Copa Sudamericana but CONMEBOL reduced the Brazilian berths from 8 to 6. Therefore, the champions Santa Cruz and Paysandu lost their Copa Sudamericana berths. Finally, they qualified for the 2017 Copa do Brasil Round of 16.
Ceará were the defending champion, but were eliminated by Santa Cruz in the quarterfinals.

2018 Campeonato Pernambucano

The 2018 Campeonato Pernambucano was the 104th edition of the state championship of Pernambuco organized by FPF. The championship began on 17 January and ended on 8 April. Sport were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Central in the semi-finals.

The 2018 Copa do Brasil first stage was the first stage of the 2018 Copa do Brasil football competition. It was played from 30 January to 7 February 2018. A total of 80 teams competed in the first stage to decide 40 places in the second stage of the 2018 Copa do Brasil.

The 2019 Copa do Nordeste was the 16th edition of the main football tournament featuring teams from the Brazilian Northeast Region. The competition featured 16 clubs, with Bahia, Ceará and Pernambuco having two seeds each, and Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Alagoas, Paraíba, Maranhão and Piauí with one seed each. Four teams were decided by a qualifying tournament.

The 2019 Campeonato Pernambucano was the 105th edition of the state championship of Pernambuco organized by FPF. The championship began on 19 January and ended on 21 April.

The 2020 Campeonato Pernambucano da Série A1 was the 106th edition of the state championship of Pernambuco organized by FPF. The championship began on 18 January and ended on 5 August.

2021 Campeonato Pernambucano

The 2021 Campeonato Pernambucano da Série A1 was the 107th edition of the state championship of Pernambuco organized by FPF. The championship began on 24 February and ended on 23 May. Salgueiro were the defending champions but they were eliminated in the semi-finals.

The 2021 Campeonato Paranaense was the 107th edition of the top division of football in the state of Paraná organized by FPF. The competition started on 27 February and ended on 13 October.

2022 Campeonato Pernambucano Football competition

The 2022 Campeonato Pernambucano will be the 108th edition of the state championship of Pernambuco organized by FPF. The championship will begin on 22 January and will end on 2 April 2022. Náutico are the defending champions.
